We’ve made some new additions to the Music section of our website’s Merchandise section! There are now 5 new releases to explore and learn about, and for this update I’ve selected some of the more obscure and unique SEGA releases out there.

SEGA Japan’s music division Wave Master International have finally struck a deal with a European label to distribute SEGA soundtracks in the West. Wayo Records are working in collaboration with Wave Master and their first release with them is a 3CD soundtrack for Sonic Forces called ‘A Hero Will Rise’. This soundtrack contains the same content as SEGA Japan’s ‘A Hero Will Rise’ soundtrack and there’s currently no plans to release the now Japan exclusive, Sonic Forces Vocal Traxx: On The Edge CD.
The soundtrack can be ordered directly from Wayo Records’s store for €25.00 and the label ships worldwide. The soundtrack also comes with a bonus sticker and poster.
Heavy metal video game covers band MegaDriver have returned with a new album of covers based on tunes from various shoot-em-ups. The album is called For Great Justice and features metal renditions of songs from Thunderforce IV, Elemental Master, Zero Wing, Gaiares and more.
You can download the album for free from MegaDriver’s official website and it’s also available for streaming on Spotify, Bandcamp and Deezer.

Brave Wave Productions (who previously released the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 soundtracks on vinyl) are back with a new SEGA soundtrack release in the form of SEGA Saturn rarity, Panzer Dragoon Saga. The soundtrack will get a 20th anniversary release on vinyl, CD and digitally through Bandcamp. The vinyl pressing comes on lilac-coloured wax and includes a free download of the digital soundtrack. During the 2017 Tokyo Game Show, Tomoya Ohtani performed a short live set of music from Sonic Forces to promote the upcoming Sonic Team title. He was joined on stage by vocalists Jon Underdown and Nana Hatori and the performance has become infamous for Ohtani’s use of the air horn sound effect. You can watch the set by clicking below:
Sonic Forces launches worldwide on November 7th 2017 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
If you’ve never seen it, go and watch Red Bull Music Academy’s fascinating documentary series Diggin’ in the Carts. It interviews loads of Japanese video game composers from its earliest days and right up to the PS1 era. While lots of different composers from many different publishing houses feature, Yuzo Koshiro of Streets of Rage and Revenge of Shinobi fame features in one episode and many contemporary artists heap praise on his revolutionary dance-influenced music.
Despite the fact the series is now 3 years old, Red Bull Music Academy are reviving the Diggin’ in the Carts name for a world tour featuring composers that appeared in the original series. Yuzo Koshiro and fellow Streets of Rage composer Motohiro Kawashima are due to appear at 3 live shows that will also feature many other composers from the series. The dates for these shows are listed below:
– October 22nd 2017, Regent Theater, Los Angeles, USA
– November 17th 2017, Liquidroom, Tokyo, Japan
– November 30th 2017, Fabric, London, UK
