In today’s update to our Merchandise Catalogue, we have added 5 new vinyl releases to the SEGA Music Index. Please see below for the full list of additions:
Data Discs have announced their next vinyl release in collaboration with SEGA Japan, and it’s a big one – After Burner II!
The release will feature the full soundtrack to the arcade classic, plus the version of the main theme, “After Burner” without the lead melody (as it appeared in the original After Burner game). In addition, the second disc will feature three re-arranged tracks from the SEGA Sound Team (performed in 1988) as well as a medley by the current incarnation of the group, the SEGA Sound Unit [H.]. The set also comes with a poster of the game’s iconic artwork, showing the F-14 Tomcat – this art has been re-licensed just for this release!
Pre-orders go live on Saturday 24th February, with all versions of the soundtrack priced at £24.99. The release date itself is set for March 31st.
When Tracker isn’t playing SEGA games, he’s talking about SEGA games. Or drawing about SEGA games. Or all of the above. You can also catch him over on Twitter.
Another retro review! Today we’re tackling the Mega Drive port of perennial AM2 arcade classic After Burner II. Can the Mega Drive handle a faithful port of a game made for the slightly more powerful SEGA X Board?
A fascinating new interview with M2 employees Yosuke Okunari and Naoki Horii about 3D After Burner II has gone live on SEGA’s official blog. The new interview details the difficulties in porting the game to 3DS and the increased game difficulty that was brought about by the addition of stereoscopic 3D. It’s a fascinating little read that will be continued in a second part which will go live tomorrow.

3D After Burner II is released on the 3DS eShop this Thursday the 15th of January 2015. It is the first release in the second season of SEGA 3DS classics and it will be priced at £4.49.
3D After Burner II marks the first game in the next series of SEGA 3D Classics for the 3DS and it’s coming to the European eShop on the 15th of January.
These games are remastered with stereoscopic 3D visuals as well some other additional features like saving, gyroscope controls and extra gameplay modes.
The game will be priced at £4.49 for the UK and €4.99 for the rest of Europe.
Japan are getting a second wave of 3DS SEGA classics! The first in the series will be After Burner II which launches December 18th, but obviously only for Japan at this time.
From what I can gather from the official website the new version adds:
– Gyro controls
– Stereoscopic 3D visuals
– A stage select
– A music player which can be used in game
The other interesting thing is that this port is based on the arcade version and not the Mega Drive version.
Japan exclusive arcade title Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Arcade is receiving an update on March 19th which adds 3 new songs; 39, Senbonzakura and a rather spectacular After Burner II remix. Check the video below to hear clips of the 3 songs in action:
