Ports of Fighting Vipers and Motor Raid to Appear in Project Judge

September 20th, 2018

Project Judge (also known as Judge Eyes in Japan) will feature some interesting SEGA arcade titles in its in-game arcades.

First up we have a fresh port of AM2’s 1995 fighting game Fighting Vipers, which has previously appeared on Saturn as well as receiving modern HD ports for Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012.

The more interesting announcement is that 1997’s Motor Raid is receiving a port. This futuristic, motorcycle racing game features combat similar to Road Rash and this port will be the first time it’s ever appeared on a home system. Interested in how this plays? Our buddies at Saturn Memories did a video on it a while back:

Project Judge will release as Judge Eyes in Japan on the 13th of December 2018 for PS4. It is an original title from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios set in the same world as the Yakuza franchise. A Western release is scheduled for sometime in 2019.

Mega Drive Mini Delayed to 2019 – AtGames Are Off the Project

September 19th, 2018

SEGA’s Mega Drive mini console has been delayed to 2019 in an attempt to improve the system and aim for a worldwide launch.

The system was previously being developed by AtGames who have a notorious reputation for developing clone systems that don’t perform well or emulate sound accurately. SEGA is now working with a domestic Japanese software developer but the developer has not been named at this time. The statement from SEGA Japan says the developer has “a proven track record”. Could it be M2, the developers of the SEGA Ages ports?

SEGA’s Mega Drive and Genesis mini consoles will launch together worldwide in 2019.

SEGA Mega Drive Classics Heading to Switch Winter 2018

September 18th, 2018

The SEGA Mega Drive Classics collection that launched on PC, PS4 and Xbox One back in May is finally heading to Nintendo Switch this Winter 2018.

While Western release dates for the individual SEGA Ages titles for Switch that are currently releasing in Japan this month are still up in arms, this announcement should satisfy SEGA fans looking to bring a nice collection of Mega Drive titles with them anywhere.

SEGA Mega Drive Classics features 53 Mega Drive games to play, a 90s bedroom presentation and a whole host of challenges to complete for each game. You can check out our review of the PS4 version to get a good idea of what to expect in the Switch port.

Columns II, Sonic 2, Out Run & Thunder Force AC Heading to Switch

September 12th, 2018

Weekly Famitsu have revealed that the next batch of SEGA Ages titles to release on Switch will include Columns II, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Out Run and more interestingly, Thunder Force AC. Thunder Force AC is a weird little title in that it’s an arcade port of Thunder Spirits for SNES. Thunder Spirits itself is also an altered port of Thunder Force III for Mega Drive.

The only new features revealed at this time are that Columns II is getting an online versus mode, while Out Run will featured newly arranged music tracks. There are currently no screenshots, video or release dates set for these titles at this time.

The SEGA Ages line for Nintendo Switch is still currently Japan exclusive. Development on these ports is lead by M2 who previously worked on the SEGA Ages ports to 3DS.

New Game from Yakuza Devs ‘Project Judge’ Announced

September 11th, 2018

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios have revealed their first non-Yakuza title since 2012’s Binary Domain and it takes the form of Project Judge. In Japan the game will be officially titled Judge Eyes, while Project Judge is currently the working title in Western territories. Project Judge features action similar to the over-the-top brawling of the Yakuza franchise, but with a heavier emphasis on detective work and investigation. It’s actually set in the same fictionalised world of Yakuza and the 2 trailers that accompany the game’s announcement showcase action taking place in Kamurocho:

Project Judge will release in Japan on the 13th of December 2018 for PS4. A Western release is scheduled for next year.
