Official Retro-Bit SEGA Controllers Now Available for Pre-Order on Amazon

The official Mega Drive and SEGA Saturn controllers from Retro-Bit are now available to pre-order on Amazon. The controllers are due to ship on January 31st 2019. They are available in the following configurations:

Mega Drive Classic Edition (available in blue and black) – £14.99
Mega Drive USB Edition (available in blue and black) – £17.99
Mega Drive Blue Tooth Edition – £39.99
Mega Drive Blue Tooth Receiver – £15.99
SEGA Saturn Classic Edition (available in transparent and black) – £17.99
SEGA Saturn USB Edition (available in transparent and black) – £21.99
SEGA Saturn Blue Tooth Edition – £39.99
SEGA Saturn Blue Tooth Receiver – £14.99

Classic editions are for use with original systems, the USB and blue tooth editions are for use with modern systems. The blue tooth editions also feature analogue sticks. A separate blue tooth receiver has to be purchased if you want to use the blue tooth editions with original hardware.

Cancelled Shenmue 1 & 2 Remakes Revealed by Digital Foundry

Digital Foundry have managed to get their hands on some work-in-progress footage of a cancelled Shenmue 1 & 2 remake project. Unlike d3t’s Shenmue I & II, this would have been a complete remake of the game with more detailed assets, textures and lighting. Check out the video below to see a comparison of this footage versus Shenmue I & II:

There’s a full article that breaks down what is being shown in the footage and what it does differently to the eventual release of Shenmue I & II. There’s also some speculation as to why these remakes were cancelled in favour of the upscaled HD ports we eventually got. Digital Foundry suggests the remakes were cancelled due to budget restraints and delays.

High Definition Texture Pack for Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition Coming as Free DLC

October 15th, 2018

The upcoming digital re-release of Resonance of Fate for PC and PS4 will offer users a high definition texture pack as a free downloadable content pack.

The tri-Ace JRPG is being re-released on October 18th as Resonance of Fate: 4K/HD Edition. The base game is 16gb in size, but with the high definition textures pack installed, that bumps the game’s footprint up to 83gb.

Resonance of Fate was originally released on Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2010.

The 2018 Sonic Christmas Jumper Has Arrived | Merchandise

October 2nd, 2018

Numskull designs have revealed a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog knitted Christmas jumper for 2018. The new design features Sonic, Tails and Knuckles snowboarding/skiing in an environment not too dissimilar to Ice Cap from Sonic 3.

The jumper is available to pre-order now from Geek Store and is priced at £39.99. The jumper will ship nearer the end of November 2018.

Shenmue I & II Collector’s Edition Revealed by Pix’n Love | Merchandise

October 2nd, 2018

Pix’n Love have revealed a limited edition version of Shenmue I & II for PS4 and Xbox One that includes the game, an art book, 4 collectible art cards and a cardboard case to house everything in. Pre-orders will go live on Pix’n Love’s website on October 3rd 2018 at 12pm CEST.

It appears this collector’s edition is currently exclusive to Europe as all promotional imagery features the game with the European PEGI rating on the cover. There is no word on a release outside of Europe at this time.

Virtua Racing is Coming to Nintendo Switch Under the SEGA Ages Header

September 23rd, 2018

The next title in the SEGA Ages line of Nintendo Switch ports will be Virtua Racing.

Virtua Racing hasn’t received a home console port since the PS2 remake that was included in the SEGA Classics Collection and SEGA Ages 2500 line in 2004. Once again, M2 will be handling development duties but there is currently no set release date.

Virtua Racing joins Sonic the Hedgehog and Thunder Force IV in the Nintendo Switch’s SEGA Ages line. Future SEGA Ages releases also include Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Gain Ground, Space Harrier, Out Run, Columns II, Thunder Force AC and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

M2’s SEGA Ages Ports of Thunder Force IV and Sonic the Hedgehog Now Available on Switch in EU

There’s been scarce mention of M2’s SEGA Ages ports making it to the West, but all of a sudden (and only the day after the Japanese launch), Sonic the Hedgehog and Thunder Force IV have landed on the Nintendo Switch’s eShop for Europe.

Each game is price €6.99 for Europe and £5.99 for UK. These ports are enhanced with development lead by M2 and contain new features like Sonic’s Mega Play mode from the arcade and the addition of the drop dash from Sonic Mania. Check out the launch trailer below:

Take a Look Inside SEGA Sammy’s New Tokyo Headquarters

SEGA Sammy are in the process of moving to a new headquarters building in Ousaki, Tokyo. On September 11th 2018 they also held a press conference and took press on a guided tour of the new premises. The move will be completed by next month and there’s some fascinating memorabilia on display in the new building.
