SEGA To Reveal “Project B.L.A.C.K.” On September 2nd, Seemingly Related to Sakura Wars

Friday, August 28th, 2020

SEGA has launched a new teaser website and music video for a new title to be revealed on September 2nd – “Project B.L.A.C.K.”.

B.L.A.C.K. is the name of the sort-of idol group seen in the music video (made up of Kurumi Saimei, Prana Tosei, and Meisa Akashi), with it being a fairly ludicrous acronym for “Brilliant, Legislative, Artistic, Celebrity, Knights.” They sing – and fight – ‘for the future of Japan’. The music itself is composed by Kohei Tanaka, and if this all sounds a bit familiar then a trademark registration from a while ago might explain why – as SEGA registered “Sakura Wars B.L.A.C.K.” in May.

The teaser website can be found here, and there’s also a Twitter account for the game. Gematsu have also translated the nitty gritty details that we know so far. One thing to note is that the website also has a giveaway for Apple and Google Play giftcards; SEGA does this pretty often, but they tend to favour Amazon giftcards. This might suggest this project may actually be a new mobile game. Either way, we don’t have long to wait until we found out what exactly Project B.L.A.C.K. is.

IDOLA: Phantasy Star Saga English Pre-Registration Now Open for iOS and Android, Planned to Launch September 17th

Wednesday, August 19th, 2020

We recently reported that Boltrend Games were bringing SEGA’s mobile title IDOLA: Phantasy Star Saga to the West, with a open beta. Well, it turns out there’s not long to wait until the full release; as pre-registration is now open for the game, with the iOS App Store giving a release date of September 17th.

There is a bit of a downside to this news, as the game sadly isn’t coming to Europe as of right now; it’s available globally everywhere save for Europe, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. Trying to access the game via the App Store here in the UK turns up an error message. It might be too early to totally rule out a European release though – just look at Phantasy Star Online 2, after all. That, and Twinfinite states the game is actually planned to launch specifically in the UK, so this might change quicker than we think.

You can get the iOS App Store version here and the Google Play version here.

The Google Play Store is accessible at least, and gives us a run-down of the title (after the jump): (more…)

SEGA Mobile Crossover Puzzler ‘SEGA Heroes’ is Out Today

Thursday, November 15th, 2018

SEGA have released a brand new mobile title today called SEGA Heroes. The game is a Bejeweled-like puzzler with RPG elements and an abundance of characters from various classic SEGA franchises. Put together a team of up to 4 characters and battle it out to level up and gain power ups. You can play as characters from Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Shinobi and Streets of Rage and all the characters have been drawn in a cartoony, big-head style that keeps things looking consistent. Check out the launch trailer below:

SEGA Heroes is out now on the Google Play store and iOS app store. The game is a free download but it supports in-app purchases.

SEGA Soundtracks Return to Spotify, Now Also Available on Apple Music

Friday, June 1st, 2018

After being removed from Spotify during May, many of SEGA’s beloved soundtracks have now returned to the service, bringing some fresh additions with them. In addition, the same selection is now also available for rival service Apple Music – so whatever your streaming preference, you can now get your SEGA on.

The announcement came from SEGA Japan’s Twitter account, but we were able to access the soundtracks from our UK Spotify account; the only addition we immediately took note of were the previously missing volumes of the NiGHTS into Dreams soundtrack. We were able to check Apple Music and it seems like they’re available for UK users there too. SEGA Japan also mentioned Google Play and Amazon Music Unlimited-  we don’t have immediate access to these services, but asking Amazon Echo to play some Crush 40 did indeed start blaring out Open Your Heart; so it looks like that might be a UK thing too.

Zaxxon: Escape Sneaks onto Mobile Devices

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

How did I manage to miss this one!? A new game in the Zaxxon series has crept onto mobile devices! The game is called Zaxxon: Escape and unlike the orignal isometric shooter, this game is a third person, behind-the-ship affair (similar to After Burner) where you must tilt your device in order to squeeze through the openings. Check out the announcement trailer below:

The game is available to download now for iPhone, iPad and Google Play devices. A quick look on the iOS app store tells me the game is currently available for 69p in the UK.
