Designed by Steve Ritchie of Black Night, High Speed, T2 Judgment Day and Star Trek Next Gen fame – Jersey Jack Pinball have launched an official Sonic the Hedgehog pinball table. As with most pinball tables, this is aimed at arcade operators and not private collectors (unless you really have the money and floor space for it).
The table is available in North America only and comes in 3 editions: a $9,999 arcade edition, a $12,000 special edition, and a $15,000 collector’s edition. The special edition adds premium finishes, a shaker motor, Sonic-blue “armor”, a dual-layer RGB acrylic battle topper, and Invisiglass. The collector’s edition adds gold playfield accents, Knuckles-red laser-cut “armor”, a mechanical battle topper with widescreen LCD, and a numbered plaque.
Well here’s a nice surprise – KaZe video pinball title Digital Pinball: Last Gladiators is getting a PC port thanks to publisher BeXide Inc.
Digital Pinball: Last Gladiators originally released in June 1995 exclusively for the SEGA Saturn. BeXide Inc previosuly ported the game to iOS in 2010, but are now giving the game a wider PC release through Steam. Last Gladiators is one of the Saturn’s best video pinball games. Digital Pinball: Last Gladiators also received a Saturn sequel called Digital Pinball: Necronomicon in November 1996. KaZe also developed Super Pinball: Behind the Mask and Super Pinball II: The Amazing Odyssey for SNES, as well as Akira Psycho Ball for the PS2.

Tilt! (or Hyper 3D Pinball depending on where you’re from) is quite an extensive package for a 1996 pinball sim. Developed by NMS Software, this game features a whopping 6 unique tables to choose from, 2 camera angles and additional cut-scenes when you lock a ball in play. There’s a hell of a lot of pinball packed onto this disc, but is it all worth your time?
Pinball is high score gaming in its purest form; smack a chrome ball around a table and watch the numbers go up. There’s obviously a little more to it than that, but pinball offers a great feedback loop as you hit targets, bumpers and ramps and the machine blasts noise and light at you to indicate you’re doing well. It’s a visceral and exciting experience that will cost you an arm and a leg if you ever wanted to buy your own table and maintain it, so thankfully pinball simulation games came to the rescue to allow us all to enjoy the thrill of pinball from our homes.
