Disney to Re-Release Mega Drive Versions of Aladdin and The Lion King in New Budget Collection This October 29th

August 28th, 2019

UPDATE
In light of this announcement, Disney have removed the previously available Steam versions of The Lion King and Aladdin from sale. Their storefront pages are still on Steam, but the option to buy them is no longer there. Thanks to Saturn Memories for the tip.

ORIGINAL STORY
Disney and Digital Eclipse will re-release the Mega Drive versions of Aladdin and The Lion King in a new budget-release collection for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on October 29th 2019.

This new compilation also includes the Game Boy versions of the games alongside the SNES version of The Lion King. The SNES version of Aladdin isn’t included, likely due to a licensing issue. The SNES version of Aladdin is a completely different game when compared to its Mega Drive equivalent, and it was developed by Capcom.

The collection also boasts a 15 second rewind button, a previously unreleased “Final Cut” of Aladdin and the 1993 trade show version of Aladdin. Aladdin is famous for being the 3rd best selling Mega Drive game behind Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The Next SEGA AGES Title for Nintendo Switch is Ichidant-R, New Details Released

August 21st, 2019

SEGA has revealed its next offering for the SEGA AGES line on Nintendo Switch, and it’s the arcade party game Ichidant-R. Somewhat similar to Namco’s Point Blank, the game sees you playing a variety of minigames to progress.

There’s a slew of new features for this release, such as a Helper Mode to make casual playthroughs more feasible – but most interesting is the Mega Drive Mode, which brings over the various additional features that port had. The RPG-style Quest Mode and Free Mode for practising the games are included here, as well as a Competition Mode that supports up to 4 Players (something the arcade version previously couldn’t do). To go along with this, there’s also Netplay support for the Arcade version.

Key for Western players though, is that the previously unreleased English localisation of the game is also included, a la Puyo Puyo’s AGES release.

There’s currently no solid release date for Ichidant-R, but we’d expect to see it pop up in Japan over the next two weeks, as was the case when Columns 2 was announced. Meanwhile, tomorrow Western players will be able to get their hands on Puyo Puyo and Space Harrier, which have been available in Japan for some time.

New Shenmue III Trailer Showcases In-Game Arcades and Arena Battles | Video Spotlight

August 21st, 2019

A new Shenmue III trailer has dropped at Gamescom 2019 and it showcases a “day in the life” scenario, which highlights some of the things you can experience in Guilin. This includes arcades full of electro-mechanical games, and arena battles against a variety of martial artists from the area. You can check it out via the embed below:

Shenmue III launches on November 19th 2019 for PS4 and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Yakuza Remastered Collection is Headed to PS4, Yakuza 3 Out Today Digitally

August 20th, 2019

A leak on the American Playstation Store has revealed the existence of a Yakuza Remastered Collection. This collection is the localised Western versions of the previously Japan-only PS4 versions of Yakuza 3, 4 and 5. The games are being released digitally first with a new localisation and all the content that was previously cut for the Western versions.

Yakuza 3 will release today with Yakuza 4 releasing on October 29th 2019 and Yakuza 5 will arrive on the 11th of February 2020. Once all 3 digital releases are available, a boxed collection of all 3 titles will be available as well. Pre-orders will supposedly arrive at some point today but at time of writing I can’t find any listings.

The boxed version comes with some really cool exclusives if you pre-order the day one edition. Yakuza 3 and 4 come on one disc with Yakuza 5 on a seperate disc. This is because it is also bundled with a PS3 style case for Yakuza 5 which infamously only got a digital release in PAL regions. Also included is a 2 disc digipack case which houses the entire collection.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Gets New Gameplay Showcase, Releases November 8th

August 20th, 2019

The latest in the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games series has received a shiny new gameplay showcase to coincide with Gamescom 2019.

The showcase demonstrates several events – however the most notable thing here is the first full showcase of the teased ‘2D’ gameplay from the reveal trailer. In this mode, the backdrop changes to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, with events specifically from those Games; and both Mario and Sonic characters get retro looks to go along with it. The character roster is limited here though, to just the basics – so for Sonic fans, don’t expect new 16-bit sprites for Shadow or Silver, as only the Classic Sonic cast of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman are represented (poor Amy…). There’s even a nice CRT filter to really seal the deal!

The official page for the game, as well as the showcase have also confirmed a November 8th release date for Europe. It’ll release slightly earlier in America, on November 5th.

SEGA & Amplitude Studios Reveal New God Game ‘Humankind’

August 19th, 2019

The “HMKD” teaser that SEGA made live on the 16th of August has been revealed as a new God game from Amplitude Studios. Revealed live on the Open Night Live show at Gamescom, the title is called Humankind and the focus is on changing the course of human evolution. It definitely has an air of Sid Meier’s Civilization series about it. Check out the reveal trailer below:

While no platforms have been currently listed, I think it’s safe to say that PC will be on the cards. Humankind is due to release at some point in 2020.

Adam Hunter’s Daughter Cherry Joins Streets of Rage 4 as a Playable Character, Release Platforms Finally Confirmed

August 19th, 2019

A new playable character has been revealed for Streets of Rage 4. Cherry Hunter is the daughter of Adam Hunter from the original game and is unique among Streets of Rage characters in that she fights with a weapon as default. Cherry uses her trusty guitar as well as her fists. Check her out in action via the trailer below which also features our first glimpse of Motohiro Kawashima’s contributions to the soundtrack:

We’ve also got official confirmation as to what platforms Streets of Rage 4 will release on. The game is coming to PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. There is still no release date listed at this time.

Streets of Rage 4 is being developed by Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games and publishing will be handled by Dotemu under license from SEGA.

New Shenmue Easter Egg Discovered: Nozomi Jumps into Action!

August 18th, 2019

A fascinating new discovery has been made in the original Shenmue – a certain set of conditions can trigger a fight scene where Nozomi joins Ryo in the action.

According to the fine folk at PhatomRiverStone.com, this scene can be triggered by visiting Sakuragaoka park before 7pm on a sunny or snowy day after Ryo’s brawl at the Heartbeats Bar. However, you must make your visit after the Heartbeats Bar brawl and before Ryo visits the tattoo parlor, which is the next location in Ryo’s quest.

Click the below embed to see what happens in the fight at Sakuragaoka park once the conditions have been successfully met:

For full details on how to trigger this fight scene in Shenmue, head on over to PhantomRiverStone.com’s post on the easter egg as they go into far more detail about the additional requirements that are needed to trigger this event.

SEGA Launch Cryptic “HMKD” Teaser Site

August 16th, 2019

Somewhat out of the blue, SEGA has launched a mysterious new teaser site, with nothing but what appears to be a heart rate monitor and “HMKD” in its name. There’s no other details on the site on in the tweet, just an option to sign up to a mailing list so you can “be the first to know.”

We don’t know when whatever this is will be revealed, but we can safely assume it might be tied into the announcement SEGA is planning for Gamescom. Time will tell.
