Catherine Classic Now Available On SteamJanuary 10th, 2019Atlus’ cult puzzle/platformer/relationship-em-up Catherine has launched on Steam, under the title Catherine Classic. This is the version of the game that was previously released in 2011 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, not to be confused with the upcoming remaster Catherine: Full Body. The PC version boasts an unlocked framerate, support for 4K resolutions, customisable keyboard and mouse mapping, and dual audio support. The game is priced at £14.99/$19.99, and is available here.
SEGA AGES Puyo Puyo and Puyo Puyo Tsu Get New Screenshots, New Features DetailedJanuary 7th, 2019The official website for M2’s SEGA AGES series for Nintendo Switch has updated, and with it we have some more detail on what to expect from the upcoming ports of Puyo Puyo and Puyo Puyo Tsu in the series. This moreso goes for the first game – currently the only additional feature listed for Puyo Puyo Tsu is the previously confirmed online play, with not even the 3DS tournament mode being confirmed. The original Puyo, however, is getting quite a few touch ups to bring the arcade version in line with several of the home ports and beyond. In particular, the SEGA AGES version allows you to rotate pieces both left and right (the original arcade version of the game locks rotation to one direction) and also adds in the Quick Turn mechanic from Puyo Tsu (which allows you to rotate Puyos even if you’re stuck between two walls). New screenshots, showing off the snazzy wallpaper borders included in the ports, are also available on the SEGA AGES pages for each game. Check out Puyo Puyo’s here and Puyo Puyo Tsu’s here. There’s still no word on a release date for these titles, nor confirmation of a Western release, but we’ll keep an eye out if that changes. Taiko No Tatsujin: Drum Session Adding Out Run’s “Magical Sound Shower” as DLC in JapanDecember 20th, 2018
The latest PS4 iteration of Namco’s beloved drum-em-up Taiko No Tatsujin is getting a fresh dose of SEGA rhythm action, as one of the newly announced DLC packs for the game includes music from SEGA’s arcade classic Out Run. Unsurprisingly, “Magical Sound Shower” is the track being added, considered by many as the Out Run song. It’s not made clear if it’s the original arcade arrangement, a later arrangement from the likes of Out Run 2, or even a new arrangement for the game. There’s not long to find out however, as the DLC pack it’s included in, “Don Na Pack Vol. 16”, will be released in Japan on January 24th 2019, for 500 yen. The pack also includes music from the anime High Score Girl and Darius II. Also somewhat related to SEGA is the next DLC pack, which was released today in Japan; a collection of Hatsune Miku songs, including the smash hit Senbonzakura. This pack weighs in at a rather fitting 390 yen. The Japanese DLC page for Taiko No Tatsujin Drum Session is available here. Currently there isn’t anything to suggest this DLC coming to the Western versions, but we’ll keep an eye out in case it does. The Sonic Mania Adventures series of short cartoons lead by Sonic Mania cut-scene lead Tyson Hesse has returned for a one-off Christmas special. Amy Rose makes her debut in the series with a rather amusing encounter with Metal Sonic. The next title joining the ranks of M2’s SEGA AGES series for Nintendo Switch will be the original arcade version of Gain Ground. Gain Ground is described by SEGA as a “tactical action shooting game”, in which you must build your ranks with warriors from across time in order to take down a malicious program. The game has seen many ports over the years, but this looks to be the first entirely faithful one – right down to offering a “Tate Mode” that lets you turn the Switch’s portable screen on its side to recreate the original vertical screen of the Gain Ground arcade cabinet. In addition to being a faithful port, there’s some added goodies as is standard with M2. The rarer overseas 3-player version of the game is included as well as the original 2-player version. The game will also include a “Helper Mode” that allows you to rewind mistakes, and a “Full Member Mode” that lets you start the game with the full roster of warriors unlocked right away. Handy stuff, as anyone who’s played Gain Ground will probably attest to. Currently the game has no solid release date. Japanese site GameWatch previously reported that it would be released in 2018, but SEGA’s own PR simply states “Coming Soon”. We’ll likely find out soon enough, as there’s only one Thursday (eShop Update Day) left in 2018 and that’s the 27th next week. The talented musicians at OC Remix have revealed their next album is going to be based on the music of legendary Dreamcast RPG Skies of Arcadia. The album will be called Arcadia Legends and the project is being directed by Darkflamewolf and Modus. Unreleased Dreamcast Zip Drive Prototype for Sale on eBayDecember 17th, 2018
UPDATE Someone has bought the Dreamcast Zip Drive! The auction ended on the 18th of December at 18:07 CET. ORIGINAL POST The Dreamcast Zip Drive was an unreleased add-on that was due to release in Autumn 2000. Co-developed by SEGA and Iomega, the device would give users access to 100mb zip disks to allow for greater storage space for browsing the internet and downloading additional game content like maps for Quake III Arena. The add-on connects to the Dreamcast via its expansion port and power input, requiring you to then power your Dreamcast using the zip drive’s power input. The zip drive also features a USB slot on the front which would have given users access to more peripherals that never came to pass. It’s an interesting little device that never made it to store shelves, but now you can own one of the prototypes. There is currently “one of less than five worldwide” on sale on eBay. The zip drive is located in Berlin and will set you back 4225 euros, around £3798 in British sterling. It’s certainly not a bargain, but it’s definitely one of the more interesting SEGA curios to pop up for quite some time. And let’s not forget, it does come with a zip disk! A double-whammy of Puyo Puyo goodness is heading to Switch, as a Puyo Puyo Championship stream has confirmed that both Puyo Puyo and the beloved Puyo Puyo Tsu will be heading to the console as part of M2’s SEGA AGES series of re-releases. Currently all that is known about the releases is that they’ll be based on the original arcade versions of the titles, and crucially that they’ll have support for online battles. It can also be assumed that Puyo Tsu will retain its new Tournament Mode from the Japan-only 3DS eShop release of the game. We’ll let you know if any more details come out regarding these titles, particularly in terms of a Western release. With M2 admitting many aspects of AGES are being tailored towards the Western market, could this be our shot at officially translated versions of these titles? Time will tell.
