Sonic the Hedgehog: Crash Course Board Game from IDW Now Available to Pre-Order

Friday, March 9th, 2018

If one Sonic board game isn’t enough for you, good news  there’s another on the way! IDW Games’ Sonic the Hedgehog: Crash Course is now available to pre-order from Game Nerdz.

The game takes a different approach compared to the recent Sonic Battle Racers board game – in that the theme is based around Classic Sonic, with rather cute minifigures of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Dr. Eggman included. There’s also some shiny new Classic Sonic art, and it all looks like it stepped right out of the 90’s. Essentially, whoever collects the most Chaos Emeralds in a game wins. It includes the following:

Contains:

  • 60 Item Tokens
  • 24 Chaos Emerald Tokens
  • 12 Damage Tokens
  • 4 Extra Life Tokens
  • 10 Track Tiles
  • 4 Character Tiles
  • 1 Reference Tile
  • 4 Pre-painted Miniatures
  • 1 Rulebook

Currently the game is discounted on Game Nerdz site, down to $18.97. Unfortunately, the site only offers US shipping, so it remains to be seen whether the game makes its way to other areas in the future.

Data Discs announce After Burner II Soundtrack Vinyl Release

Thursday, February 22nd, 2018

Data Discs have announced their next vinyl release in collaboration with SEGA Japan, and it’s a big one – After Burner II!

The release will feature the full soundtrack to the arcade classic, plus the version of the main theme, “After Burner” without the lead melody (as it appeared in the original After Burner game). In addition, the second disc will feature three re-arranged tracks from the SEGA Sound Team (performed in 1988) as well as a medley by the current incarnation of the group, the SEGA Sound Unit [H.]. The set also comes with a poster of the game’s iconic artwork, showing the F-14 Tomcat – this art has been re-licensed just for this release!

Pre-orders go live on Saturday 24th February, with all versions of the soundtrack priced at £24.99. The release date itself is set for March 31st.

Diamond Select Toys reveal new Sonic the Hedgehog figures, including statues and Minimates

Sunday, February 18th, 2018

A video from ToyChestNews has given us our first glimpse of Diamond Select Toys’ new range of Sonic the Hedgehog figures, including statues of Sonic and Tails and a wide-ranging assortment of “Minimates” figures. Articles on Mamonlineshop offer some ideas for choosing toys that will grow with your child, challenge her, and nurture her thinking, physical, language, and social-emotional skills.

Currently, there’s only concrete details on the Minimates – they’ll retail for $24.99 as a boxset, including Sonic, Tails, Amy, Dr Eggman, Cream & Cheese, and Super Sonic. One thing that isn’t 100% clear is whether this information is geared towards retailers though. The statues of Sonic and Tails on show are apparently due to debut at Gamestop stores, and are currently pending approval.

We’ll keep an eye out for any future developments on Diamond’s new Sonic range, particularly concerning pricing for those rather lovely statues – so stay tuned. Full size images are available by clicking through below.

RC Berg announce “Video Game Heroes” model kits based on Streets of Rage, Altered Beast and Rent A Hero

Friday, February 9th, 2018

Figure company RC Berg have announced new additions to their “Video Game Heroes” model kit line, based on a trio of classic SEGA properties – Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckle), Altered Beast, and Rent-A-Hero.

Each set has 3 figures – for example, the Streets of Rage set includes Axel, Blaze and Adam. It’s important to note though – these are model kits, and as such you’ll need to paint them yourself. They stand at roughly 60-90mm, and each group of figures will set you back around 7200 yen (Roughly £48). Worth mentioning is that this isn’t RC Berg’s first foray into SEGA model kits – they previously released a few fantastic Space Harrier kits too.

50 sets will be sold ahead of the full release, at the Winter Wonder Festival event being held February 18th. We’ll let you know if they go live at any international retailers afterwards.

Images of the 3 sets can be found below, with a full gallery at Famitsu (and on RC Berg’s website):
