UPDATE 14/02/19 – It’s now been confirmed that the Time Trial challenges from the 360 and PS3 port of Alex Kidd in Miracle World are indeed in this port. The article has been adjusted accordingly. SEGA has revealed through its Japanese Twitter account that Puyo Puyo is no longer set to be the next SEGA AGES title – instead the Master System classic Alex Kidd in Miracle World will be the next game coming to the Nintendo Switch lineup. The game will come with a hefty slew of new features to boot. Now before each stage starts, a newly drawn piece of art provides a glimpse of the area ahead, not too dissimilar to the likes of Kirby’s Adventure on the NES. If that wasn’t enough, the game will now have an arranged FM soundtrack alongside its original tunes. This also includes a previously unused track finding its way into the game. In addition, there’s changes to the continue system and a rewind function to facilitate new players, a standard and expected feature of M2’s ports. Time trials for certain stages, first seen in the SEGA Vintage Collection port of the game, will also be in this port. Unfortunately the game doesn’t have a release date yet, nor does the seemingly delayed Puyo Puyo. We’ll update if one is revealed down the road. SEGA Ages Phantasy Star Now Available for Western Nintendo Switch OwnersThursday, December 13th, 2018
A port of the original Phantasy Star is now available to play on Nintendo Switch. Ported by M2, this new port of the Master System classic includes a new map display and an Ages Mode which tasks you with surviving some really challenging dungeons. The Western release date for the SEGA Ages port of Phantasy Star has finally been set. Western Switch owners will get to play the game on December 13th 2018. US pricing has been set at $7.99. The SEGA Ages port of Phantasy Star includes some new features like a dungeon map display, a bestiary, an equipment list and support for both original audio and the FM Sound Unit audio. Sam Dyer and Bitmap Books have returned to Kickstarter to crowdfund a new visual compendium, but this time around it’s the publisher’s first foray into a SEGA system. Bitmap Books are now seeking funding to help create SEGA Master System: A Visual Compendium. The book will be officially licensed by SEGA. As with previous books in the series, the SEGA Master System compendium will feature large features and interviews with a range of developers and artists, as well as double-page spreads on specific games with accompanying text. Bitmap Books are looking to crowdfund £50,000 to create and produce the SEGA Master System compendium, and the Kickstarter campaign will be running until the 31st of July. There are various bonus items you can get in the various Kickstarter tiers, so why not head over the Kickstarter page right now and have a look? Each physical book also comes with a custom bookmark and a set of anaglyph 3D glasses which can be used in conjunction with certain pages that are printed to make use of the 3D glasses; a nice little nod to the Master System’s own 3-D Glasses. Two additional games have been announced for the upcoming SEGA AGES releases for Nintendo Switch – Alex Kidd in Miracle World, and Gain Ground. Alex Kidd in Miracle World is the second Master System title to be announced, while Gain Ground marks the first arcade game announcement for the series. Currently, all is known is that they’ll be part of the collection, with no details divulged as far as extra features. However, we’d be surprised if Gain Ground didn’t take advantage of the Switch’s potential for Tate Mode! It’s also been revealed that Sonic 1 will include the Mega Play arcade version, and that Phantasy Star will inherit its features from the PS2 AGES Collection release.
