Back in February during the New York Toy Fair, Storm Collectibles revealed they were working on an Axel Stone figure to tie in with the release of Streets of Rage 4. While the figure is still without a release date, Storm have shared a new set of images of the figure that highlight the figure’s detail, interchangeable faces and hands as well as accessories; one of which is a flame trail so you can pose Axel in a way that simulates his famous ‘grand upper’ special attack:
Storm Collectibles figures are premium products with prices ranging between $70 and $95. The company are also working on a Golden Axe line that was due to release last month but has likely been put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We will share more news on all of these products as more details come in.
True to their word that it would drop before the end of May, SEGA has announced that Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to PC next week, on May 27th.
Phantasy Star Online 2 will launch as a Microsoft Store exclusive. Whilst technically only a North American launch, the process of getting the game in the UK and other non-US regions for Xbox One was extremely simple, so hopefully that’ll be the case here too. The PC version will allow players to fight alongside those on the Xbox One version, which isn’t too surprising but is very welcome all the same.
Alongside the announcement, PSO2’s first major Western collab has been announced and kicks off today in the Xbox One version; in a move I can only conclude is specifically trying to get me to make the jump from the Japanese version, it’s with VOCALOID. There’ll be a concert with Hatsune Miku and co, as well as their outfits being up for grabs. If you prefer playing MMOs like RuneScape but want to skip all the time-consuming grinding and get straight to playing with the items you want, you can visit https://farmingless.com/review/probemas/.
The Sonic Amateur Games Expo returns this September 2020 to mark the long-standing online Sonic fangaming expo’s 20th anniversary. The show will run from September 5th to the 12th and some budding fan game developers have already announced their intention to showcase their games.
Details regarding booth registration have not been published at this time, but if you are interested in appearing at the next SAGE then keep an eye on the official SAGE social media channels.
SEGA Japan have revealed that all future official soundtrack/music releases featuring SEGA music will now fall under a new SEGA Music banner. The first release under this banner is a 14 track Shin Sakura Wars Complete Works vocal tracks selection CD and a bonus disc containing the karaoke versions of the songs.
Shin Sakura Wars Complete Works launches on the 29th of April 2020 as both a physical CD as well as a digital download through Apple Music, Amazon and Google Play.
A brand new trailer for Hatsune Miku Project Diva Mega Mix has arrived and with it we get official confirmation of the game’s Western release date. Mega Mix will arrive on the 15th of May 2020 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch as an eShop downloadable title. See the game in action below:
Along with this announcement, pre-orders are now open on the Switch eShop alongside a free downloadable demo. The game costs £34.99.
Remember the Sonic and Eggman rubber ducks? Well they’re no longer alone as Numskull are bringing Tails and Knuckles to the Tubbz line. Both can be pre-ordered from the official SEGA shop now for £12.99 each.
Each Tubbz model comes in a miniature display bathtub. Infamously, the models themselves can’t be used in the bath because they’re a little too top-heavy for their own good. These new models along with a reprint of the Sonic and Eggman models will launch in July 2020.
In the latest Streets of Rage 4 trailer we get confirmation of the game’s release date. The game arrives on digital storefronts on April 30th 2020.
Along with the release date news, the latest trailer also confirms that the battle mode from previous Streets of Rage games returns, except now you can fight with up to 4 players in local multiplayer. Check it out:
Streets of Rage 4 is being developed by Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games with Dotemu publishing under license from SEGA. It will release on PC, Switch, PS4 and Xbox One on April 30th for $24.99. There is currently no word on UK pricing. The game can still be pre-ordered physically from Limited Run Games.
SEGA’s mobile action-puzzle hybrid SEGA Heroes is unfortunately meeting a premature end, as it’s been announced that service for the game is set to be shuttered as soon as next month.
For some background, recently Demiurge, the developers of SEGA Heroes and a member of SEGA Europe’s family of studios, were repurchased by one of their original founders, Albert Reed. The announcement didn’t make clear if it would affect Demiurge’s current licensed titles, but sadly it seems it will.
SEGA has outlined the closure of SEGA Heroes as follows:
April 16:
● In-app purchases will be deactivated
● The same day we will unlock the following content:
– Legendary Events
– Dremagen Boss Battles
– Daily Rewards now grant lots of Gems
– All VIP levels granted to all players
– Taiga Saejima is available, completing the Yakuza Set
May 21:
● Servers will be deactivated
It’s a shame to see the game which, from an outsiders perspective, was one of SEGA’s biggest mobile titles meeting an end only a year and a half after it launched; while not to everyone’s taste, SEGA Heroes actually did a surprisingly great job at working fan-favourites into the game, with some deep-cuts from lesser represented games such as the PS2 Shinobi titles, and the classic Phantasy Star games. We wish those at Demiurge all the best in their future endeavours!
The Japanese SEGA Ages website has been updated to reveal that the next SEGA Ages port for Nintendo Switch will be Thunder Force AC. If you’re unfamiliar with the title then Thunder Force AC is the arcade version of Technosoft’s Thunder Force III. The Thunder Force series is a collection of fantastic shoot-em-ups and Thunder Force AC marks the first time the series switched to a solely horizontal scrolling presentation that was carried through to the series’ end with Thunder Force VI in 2008.
Thunder Force AC will launch in Japan on the Nintendo Switch very soon for 999 yen via the Nintendo eShop. This new port promises a low difficulty ‘Kids Mode’, online rankings and graphical filters that mimic the game’s arcade cabinet. The port also features the new stages that were added to the console’s Mega Drive port. Development duties are once again handled by M2.
