After what feels like a lifetime, the next SEGA AGES game is finally coming to the Japanese Nintendo eShop. Alex Kidd in Miracle World will launch this Thursday, February 21st, at a price point of 925 JPY. The game boasts a slew of new features, that we recently reported on.
There’s no word on a Western release date currently. SEGA America previously released a press release stating Gain Ground and Puyo Puyo would launch in the SEGA AGES line in the West this month, but it would appear those plans have gone down the toilet. We’ll keep you updated on any news on the Western front.

The updated version of Atlus’ puzzle/dating/giant baby fighting cult classic Catherine, Catherine Full Body, is officially heading West – with some snazzy physical editions coming along with it.
The updates to the original game include improved visuals and gameplay, brand new music, an enhanced multiplayer offering, new story elements, dual audio and more. Of note, the game saw a Playstation Vita release in Japan – this version isn’t being localised, likely due to Sony effectively ending production of various Vita hardware.
Two versions of the game will be available physically at launch – a Launch Edition with a steelbook case, and the Heart’s Desire Premium Edition with a steelbook, art book, soundtrack, Collector’s Box, and an adorable little sheep plush.
Worth noting is that the original, non-enhanced version of Catherine was recently made available on Steam.

UPDATE 14/02/19 – It’s now been confirmed that the Time Trial challenges from the 360 and PS3 port of Alex Kidd in Miracle World are indeed in this port. The article has been adjusted accordingly.
SEGA has revealed through its Japanese Twitter account that Puyo Puyo is no longer set to be the next SEGA AGES title – instead the Master System classic Alex Kidd in Miracle World will be the next game coming to the Nintendo Switch lineup.
The game will come with a hefty slew of new features to boot. Now before each stage starts, a newly drawn piece of art provides a glimpse of the area ahead, not too dissimilar to the likes of Kirby’s Adventure on the NES. If that wasn’t enough, the game will now have an arranged FM soundtrack alongside its original tunes. This also includes a previously unused track finding its way into the game. In addition, there’s changes to the continue system and a rewind function to facilitate new players, a standard and expected feature of M2’s ports. Time trials for certain stages, first seen in the SEGA Vintage Collection port of the game, will also be in this port.
Unfortunately the game doesn’t have a release date yet, nor does the seemingly delayed Puyo Puyo. We’ll update if one is revealed down the road.

The Next Gen Dreamcast Controller features a variety of improvements that include a more ergonomic design, an improved analogue stick, a larger d-pad, additional shoulder buttons and a turbo function. The controller will be fully compatible with VMUs and vibration packs and is aiming to be produced and shipped by September 2019.

The SEGA AGES version of OutRun for Nintendo Switch is getting its very own soundtrack release via Wavemaster.
The album encompasses all of the music available in the recent Switch release, meaning the original arcade tracks, the tracks made for the 3DS release, and the new tracks for the Switch release. In addition, the original versions of the songs rearranged for the Switch release are also included, as well as a “SHOCK TRANCE” arrangement of Magical Sound Shower by original composer Hiro.
Advance sales start in Japan on February 23rd at the Tokyo Game Music Show, for roughly £17.60. There’s currently no word of it making it to streaming platforms, but fingers crossed.

Fast becoming a tradition, the Sonic the Hedgehog team at SEGA are once again making an appearance at SXSW Gaming to host a Sonic the Hedgehog panel.
The panel hasn’t been confirmed for a specific date/time at the time of writing, but it will take place at some point during the 15th to the 17th of March 2019. The panel will feature Aaron Webber, Jasmin Hernandez, Jun Senoue and Takashi Iizuka and it promises to discuss, “the latest for the blue blur and his next steps for 2019 and beyond.”
Previous SXSW Sonic panels have revealed the existence of Team Sonic Racing, Sonic Mania Plus and Sonic Mania Adventures, so expect some pretty high profile reveals during this year’s panel.

We’re a big fan of new, independent Mega Drive releases, but normally they come in the form of games. This latest development is a 16 track techno album from German artist Remute.
Releasing on March 22nd 2019, this album has been specifically programmed to play back using the Mega Drive’s Yamaha YM2612 sound chip. While the compositions are by Remute, the programming was done by Kabuto and it features graphics by Exocet. Whether this means the cover art or the cartridge also features a graphical equaliser is not known at this time.
Pre-order the album from Remute’s Bandcamp page by clicking here. The cartridge will set you back €33.33. Click the embed below to listen to A Warm Feeling of Total Immersion, which will feature on the full abum:
