SEGA Community Roundtable: Favourite SEGA Platformer That Isn’t a Sonic Game

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

The SEGA Community Roundtable is back from a longer absence than usual (my bad)! This time we dicuss the best SEGA Platformer that isn’t a Sonic game. The usual rules apply, any SEGA published game qualifies as well as any game that was released on a SEGA console; Mega Drive, Dreamcast etc.

Click here to be taken straight to the feature or click the ‘Features’ link on our menu.

A huge thanks to our contributors who make this feature so special! There’s some brilliant writing in this feature which you should all take some time to read over; probably some of the best work I’ve seen on the roundtable!

Details About Yakuza 5 Emerge, Development is 70% Complete

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Yakuza 5 is being built from the ground up with an entirely new engine. This means Yakuza: Dead Souls was the last game to use the engine that has powered the series since the Japanese exclusive Yakuza Kenzan! in 2008.

Yakuza 5 is reported to take place across five cities; Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka. It will also feature five playable characters; Kazuma Kiryu, Taiga Saejima, Shun Akiyama, Haruka and newcomer Tatsuo Shinada who is a former baseball player who is banned from the sport after gambling his way into debt. The twist is he’s innocent. Here is a detailed coverage of the US market that one can get and more info on the very fun online gambling that many are into these days.

As for the other characters, Kiryu is now working as a taxi driver in Fukuoka, Saejima is locked up again for some reason, Akiyama has relocated to Osaka on a business trip, Haruka has left Okinama for Osaka to become a teen idol, but her talent agency is up to something behind the scenes.

The game is apparently 70% complete and is due for a Japanese release exclusively on Playstation 3 this December. No word from SEGA Europe or USA currently exists regarding a Western release for the game. Toshihiro Nagoshi returns as the game’s designer.

SEGADriven Featured on The SonicNews Show at Sonic Paradox

Monday, May 14th, 2012

Last night we participated in SSF1991’s SonicNews Show which livestreams from Sonic Paradox’s page every Sunday at 6pm Eastern time/11pm UK time. The show started an hour earlier than usual as I didn’t realise it was kicking off so late (thanks to SSF1991 for making arrangements that allowed us to do that!) and I really enjoyed having a chat with SSF1991 about last week’s Sonic and SEGA related news.

You can listen to a repeat of the entire show via this YouTube link and hear myself and SSF1991 chat about Summer of Sonic, the 3DS release of Sonic Labyrinth, the first reviews for Sonic 4 Episode 2 and much, much more:

Thanks once again to SSF1991 from Sonic Paradox for allowing me on the show! You can follow SSF on Twitter using @SSF1991 and remember to visit Sonic Paradox for some of the best fan-animations in the business!
