It’s not often someone sends you a message saying “here’s a video I made featuring a cover of the Monster Village theme from Wonder Boy III. Also it’s been done on a banjo.” Well that’s exactly what happened to me recently and the video was supplied by a certain Ollie LongZ; a talented little musician who has recently taken to arranging banjo covers of video game themes. Check out the impressive little arrangement below:
Here’s hoping Ollie has more SEGA covers up his sleeve, but if you’re interested you can check out another of Ollie’s cover’s by clicking here (it’s a Castlevania one).
The Japanese mixed pair figure skating duo of Cathy Reed and Chris Reed competed in the Ice Dancing event at the 2014 Winter Olympics to the tune of ‘Shogun II’ from the Total War: Shogun II soundtrack. There basically isn’t anything I can add to this! Just look at that picture!
A huge update has been made to our SEGA Music Catalogue. If you head into our Merchandise section and click the Music link you will see an extended and far tidier music index. The index is now organised by album title for easier searching and each entry now has its own separate page full of trivia, scans and a track list.
New additions to the catalogue include:
Alex Kidd Complete Album
The Best of Crush 40 – Super Sonic Songs
Complete Trinity: Sonic Heroes – Original Soundtrax
We will be continuing to add to this section throughout the week and hope to add music that contains SEGA references as well as bonus CDs that come free with special edition games. Watch this space!
The 45th OC Remix album is almost upon us and this time the community have remixed the Sonic CD soundtrack! On the 25th of November OC Remix will release ‘Sonic CD: Temporal Duality’; a 3 disc compilation of Sonic CD remixes from a huge selection of musicians. Check out the trailer for the project below:
Now this might be a bit of a tenuous SEGA link but I think it’s worth mentioning. British metalcore/electronica band Centiment (who also feature members of InMe) are running a Pledge Music campaign for their debut album. What’s the album called? Why ‘Streets of Rage’ of course!
Other than being named after a famous SEGA beat-em-up, the band are also offering a remix version of the album which will feature “more than a little nod to video game music”. All the donation tiers are also cleverly named after generations of video game consoles with the lower levels being ’16bit’ and the highest level being ‘128bit’.
If video game inspired metal is your cup of tea then you might want to consider making a pledge towards Centiment’s album. You can access the Pledge Music page for the album by clicking here and download a free song by clicking here.
OC Remix forum user Dusk has made an announcement regarding 3 new Streets of Rage remix albums. The albums are intended to be released a year apart and will cover each game in the original series.
Dusk is asking for volunteers to create the music for each album now as seen in this forum post: CLICK HERE
12 of the 14 tracks to be featured on the first album have been claimed with our friend DiGi Valentine from NightsintoDreams.com featuring on one track.
Titanscreed returns for another edition of The Community Spotlight! This time Titanscreed chats to Vizard Jeffhog and Freqrexy who are organising the new Sonic Stadium remix album “The Sonic Stadium Music Adventure 2012”. Check it out below:
This year’s Summer of Sonic convention will be focussing greater on fan interaction after the announcement of several features which will be appearing at the July 7th event.
First of all, the Showcase feature makes a return. This means fans can get on stage to display their various talents, whether it be fan art, music, fiction or anything else! The Artist Alley also returns which will showcase artwork from a range of different contributors. Fan animations and shorts are also expected to be shown throughout the day.
Also returning is the annual cosplay contest which has seen an ever-growing popularity each year. I’ve personally seen plenty of Shadows, Sonics, Rouges, Sallys and even a Wes Weasley at past events!
The Club Sonic segment will also make a return after its’ successful appearance last year. This section of the show relies heavily on audience participation to a nonstop megamix of Sonic tunes.
Finally, Sonic the Comic Online will be appearing at the event to showcase the latest work on the online continuation of Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic series.
Tak Hirai who was the lead programmer on Space Channel 5 and Shenmue is making a rhythm game for the PS Vita called Orgarhythm. The game is being developed by Hirai’s Nelio studio which formed in September 2010.
Famitsu has said the game will blend strategy and music but full details are very scarce at this time. The game will also include co-operative and competitive multiplayer.
In a shock move from SEGA, the soundtrack to Valkyria Chronicles 2 is now available on the US and EU iTunes stores. The 47 song soundtrack is £15.99 for UK users. We are unable to confirm the price in US dollars and Euros at this time.
