Sonic Colours: Rise of the Wisps – Part 1 Now Available | Video Spotlight

Thursday, August 19th, 2021

The first part of the Sonic Colours animated short ‘Rise of the Wisps’ is now available.

Via SEGA PR:

In today’s episode, Sonic and Tails are joined by a lone Jade Wisp, who narrowly escapes the deceptively charming Sweet Mountain ride at Dr. Eggman’s Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park. Together, Sonic, Tails and their new companion, must band together to uncover Dr. Eggman’s evil plot to harness the Wisps’ powers and take over the universe.

The short was directed by Tyson Hesse, though notably it was also co-written by GGDG (Cucumber Quest). We’ll keep our eyes open for the next part, hopefully coming soon.

Sonic Colours Ultimate will be launching September 9th, for Xbox, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Epic Games.

Sonic Prime Announced for Netflix, 24 Episode Series Launches in 2022

Monday, February 1st, 2021

Netflix have officially announced Sonic Prime, a new animated series coming to to the service in 2022 from Wildbrain Entertainment.

Wildbrain have released a press release, with the following summary:

The 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the “Blue Blur” of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.

The series will be animated at WildBrain’s Vancouver studio, and SEGA and WildBrain will jointly participate across production, distribution and licensing. Man of Action Entertainment, creators of Ben 10 and the characters and team in the Academy Award-winning feature Big Hero 6, have been brought on as showrunners and Executive Producers for the series.

It’s certainly an interesting premise, but it remains to be seen what this show will actually look like. More recently, Man of Action dipped their toes into the video game pond with Mega Man: Fully Charged, which… didn’t go down particularly well. Hopefully we’ll see some bits later this year.

You can find the full press release here.

Everything You Need to Know About Sonic Boom

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

Lots of Sonic news coming out of New York today! At a press event called “2014: Year of Sonic”, SEGA properly revealed a new animated series called Sonic Boom featuring new character designs for Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna, Tails the Fox, Amy Rose and Dr Eggman. You can see the new character designs below:

Along with the character reveal, a trailer for the series was also uploaded. Take a look at Sonic in battle with Dr Eggman’s Burnbot and with Tails providing some bizarre lazer-whip thingy that I don’t quite understand at this time:

To tie in with the series, SEGA are publishing a tie-in video game as well. The real shock comes in the choice of developers. Sonic Team will NOT be handling the Sonic Boom game. The Wii-U version will be developed by Big Red Button Entertainment (a new studio) and Sanzaru Games on 3DS (famous for various Sly Raccoon games). Check out the announcement trailer for the game below:

Screenshots for the Sonic Boom game can also be found in this gallery over at The Sonic Stadium.

Also confirmed is that the Sonic Boom continuity does not mess with the “official” Sonic the Hedgehog canon. The Sonic you know and love from games like Sonic Lost World, Generations and Colours belongs to the official canon with the Sonic from Sonic Boom existing in an alternate universe. Basically Sonic Boom does not replace the Sonic you currently know.

Nuremberg Toy Fair Confirms New Sonic Game for PS4/Xbox One/Wii U in 2015 UPDATE Sega Responds

Monday, February 3rd, 2014

UPDATE
SEGA have responded to the supposed leaked information about a new Sonic game, film and details about the new animated series ‘Sonic Boom’. Eurogamer received the below comment:

“Sega is yet to announce details of upcoming console video games for Sonic the Hedgehog or further details regarding the new Sonic CG TV series. The recent information coming out of Nuremburg Toy Fair was incorrect. For official and up to date news regarding Sonic the Hedgehog please go to www.sonicthehedgehog.com or follow Sonic on Twitter (@sonic_hedgehog).”

ORIGINAL STORY
A banner at the Nuremberg Toy Fair lists a new Sonic title to be launched in 2015 for PS4, Xbox One and Wii U. The title is unannounced by SEGA officially, but it’s a pretty solid bet that the news is genuine as it’s listed on an official Sonic merchandise board on a stand at the fair.

Other small details have also been confirmed such as the new CG animated cartoon ‘Sonic Boom’ airing on Cartoon Network this autumn. There will be a 52 episode run of 11 minute episodes and there is also confirmation of a CG animated film.

SEGA are declining comments on the leak at this time.
