Rocket Knight Adventures and Sparkster Getting Re-Released As a Part of New Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked Collection

Thursday, January 11th, 2024

All 3 Sparkster titles are being re-released as a part of a new Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked collection that comes with a reprint of the entire 6 part Sparkster series from Sonic the Comic. This new compilation is being handled by Limited Run Games using their proprietary Carbon Engine and is being released on PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

The 3 titles included are Rocket Knight Adventures for the Mega Drive, Sparkster for Mega Drive and Sparkster for SNES which is actually quite different when compared to its Mega Drive counterpart. The mini comic that features the entire ‘Last of the Rocket Knights’ story also marks the first time any material from Sonic the Comic has been republished since the comic ceased publication in 2002.

Pre-orders for Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked will open on January 19th 2024 and finish on February 18th 2024. All pre-orders placed during this window will be honored. You can browse the various editions of the game on the Limited Run Games store by clicking here, but don’t feel like you’re missing out if you don’t want to place an order for an expensive collector’s edition, as even the standard edition comes with a reversible cover and the comic.

SEGA Forever Release Sonic R Anniversary Artwork by Sonic the Comic’s Richard Elson

Wednesday, November 18th, 2020

Sonic R released on this day back in 1997 over the pond, and to commemorate it, SEGA Forever have pulled off something very special – a brand new piece of artwork based on the game, from Sonic the Comic’s Richard Elson!

It’s a beautiful tribute; no surprise, as Elson’s stuff is always gorgeous. The art has a sort-of blend of his own Sonic the Comic style and the more style-guide accurate Classic Sonic art, to make something really special! It’s lovely to see something for the Sonic the Comic fans in audience, and hopefully this acknowledgment could lead to more down the road, as we’d be very much down for reprints!

STC25 Event Announced, Celebrating 25 Years of Sonic the Comic

Sunday, February 25th, 2018

If you love Sonic the Comic, here’s a date to remember: on June 3rd, an event celebrating 25 years since the series’ debut will be held in Manchester, here in the UK.

With all the talk of Archie Sonic’s demise and the all-new IDW comics, it can be easy to forget that the UK got its very own slice of Sonic comic action. The Fleetway Sonic comics were a unique take on the adventures of the blue hedgehog, even compared to the stuff going on across the pond at the time – and it garnered such a cult following that the comic still receives new issues created entirely by fans to this day, over on Sonic the Comic Online.

The event is being run by Michael Corker, founder of StCO – it’ll also mark his farewell from the series, as he intends to step down from his role as StCO’s editor in May.

The festivities will be held at the Fab Cafe in Manchester – rather than being a bombastic convention-style affair a la “Sonic the Comic-Con” (held in 2014), it’ll be a quieter meet for people to socialise and reminisce about the beloved comic series. There’s also plans for special guests, from StC both past and present, and plenty of art supplies for folks to get creative themselves.

Currently, funds to run the event are being raised through Kickstarter – at the time of writing, the project is just under £200 away from its goal of £1000.  You can contribute to the Kickstarter by clicking here.

Looks like Nigel Dobbyn jumped the gun! The Sonic the Comic Fleetway artist will be making his appearance at Summer of Sonic convention again this year and will apparently be staying for the duration of the entire event as he is staying for the weekend.

Dobbyn is a regular guest at Summer of Sonic and has taken part in Q&As, art sessions and is always happy to sign STC memorabilia. Fingers crossed he’s bringing his original STC pages to sell again!
