Sonic the Comic Con Returns May 20th 2023 in York UK

Sunday, January 29th, 2023

Sonic the Comic Con is a fan-run UK Sonic the Hedgehog convention that celebrates the UK Sonic the Comic publication, and it’s now returning on May 20th 2023.

Run by the talented Sonic the Comic Online team, the convention previously ran in 2014 in York and again in 2018 in Manchester. The convention returns to York this year and will be located at the York Railway Institute Sports Hall on Saturday May 20th 2023.

Tickets are not yet available but the official social media channels promise they are coming soon and it looks like the organisers will be using Kickstarter to secure funding and deliver tickets. Keep your eyes locked on the SonicTheComicUK social media if you’re interested in funding/attending the event.

STC25 Event Announced, Celebrating 25 Years of Sonic the Comic

Sunday, February 25th, 2018

If you love Sonic the Comic, here’s a date to remember: on June 3rd, an event celebrating 25 years since the series’ debut will be held in Manchester, here in the UK.

With all the talk of Archie Sonic’s demise and the all-new IDW comics, it can be easy to forget that the UK got its very own slice of Sonic comic action. The Fleetway Sonic comics were a unique take on the adventures of the blue hedgehog, even compared to the stuff going on across the pond at the time – and it garnered such a cult following that the comic still receives new issues created entirely by fans to this day, over on Sonic the Comic Online.

The event is being run by Michael Corker, founder of StCO – it’ll also mark his farewell from the series, as he intends to step down from his role as StCO’s editor in May.

The festivities will be held at the Fab Cafe in Manchester – rather than being a bombastic convention-style affair a la “Sonic the Comic-Con” (held in 2014), it’ll be a quieter meet for people to socialise and reminisce about the beloved comic series. There’s also plans for special guests, from StC both past and present, and plenty of art supplies for folks to get creative themselves.

Currently, funds to run the event are being raised through Kickstarter – at the time of writing, the project is just under £200 away from its goal of £1000.  You can contribute to the Kickstarter by clicking here.

Greater Focus on Fan Interaction at Summer of Sonic 2012

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

This year’s Summer of Sonic convention will be focussing greater on fan interaction after the announcement of several features which will be appearing at the July 7th event.

First of all, the Showcase feature makes a return. This means fans can get on stage to display their various talents, whether it be fan art, music, fiction or anything else! The Artist Alley also returns which will showcase artwork from a range of different contributors. Fan animations and shorts are also expected to be shown throughout the day.

Also returning is the annual cosplay contest which has seen an ever-growing popularity each year. I’ve personally seen plenty of Shadows, Sonics, Rouges, Sallys and even a Wes Weasley at past events!

The Club Sonic segment will also make a return after its’ successful appearance last year. This section of the show relies heavily on audience participation to a nonstop megamix of Sonic tunes.

Finally, Sonic the Comic Online will be appearing at the event to showcase the latest work on the online continuation of Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic series.
