Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Gain Ground Join SEGA AGES for Switch Line-Up

Sunday, April 15th, 2018

Two additional games have been announced for the upcoming SEGA AGES releases for Nintendo Switch – Alex Kidd in Miracle World, and Gain Ground.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World is the second Master System title to be announced, while Gain Ground marks the first arcade game announcement for the series.

Currently, all is known is that they’ll be part of the collection, with no details divulged as far as extra features. However, we’d be surprised if Gain Ground didn’t take advantage of the Switch’s potential for Tate Mode!

It’s also been revealed that Sonic 1 will include the Mega Play arcade version, and that Phantasy Star will inherit its features from the PS2 AGES Collection release.

The games will start being released in Summer, with a simultaneous worldwide release planned.

Review: Streets of Rage for Master System

Sunday, January 29th, 2017

sorsms01 001

There’s something fascinating about seeing a much more advanced title being ported to a significantly underpowered system. In the right hands, these kind of ports can be an exciting experiment. What will the developer sacrifice in order to make the game run on such archaic hardware? More often than not, it’s the in-house studios who achieve the better results and with the Master System version of Streets of Rage that is definitely the case.

SEGA 3D Classics Collection Announced for 3DS

Thursday, January 21st, 2016

sega3dclassicscollection

In a rather surprising turn of events, SEGA have committed to bringing the 3DS compilation title SEGA 3D Reprint Archives 2 to the West under the new name of SEGA 3D Classics Collection.

The collection bundles together the previously released M2 versions of 3D Sonic The Hedgehog, 3D Galaxy Force II, 3D Thunderblade, 3D Altered Beast, 3D Fantasy Zone II but with 2 exclusive ports of 3D Power Drift and 3D Puyo Puyo 2. Also included are two 3D Master System titles; Maze Walker and Fantasy Zone II.

Also confirmed are new SEGA 3DS themes. While no specifics are currently available outside a “coming soon” release date, we can assume that the Dreamcast console theme could well be one of them as SEGA have previously teased the release of that theme.

SEGA 3D Classics Collection launches on the 26th of April in America, exclusively for 3DS. There is currently no word on a European release.

SEGA 3D Reprint Archives Box Art Revealed, 2 Master System Games Also Included

Friday, September 26th, 2014

Above you will see the cover art for the new SEGA 3D classics collection SEGA 3D Reprint Archives. The game will be exclusive to Japan and will include the 3D ports of Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, Out Run, Ecco the Dolphin, Streets of Rage and Shinobi III that were released on the 3DS eShop.

What’s really interesting about the collection is the 2 new inclusions that are exclusive to the collection. Remastered ports of the Master System 3D versions of Space Harrier and Out Run will also be included. These games were originally released for SEGA’s 3-D Glasses peripheral that worked with the Master System. Only 8 games made use of the peripheral and this is the first time any of the games have received a port to another system.

More details on SEGA 3D Reprint Archives can be found at the game’s official website.
