The next title in the SEGA Ages line of Nintendo Switch ports will be Virtua Racing.
Virtua Racing hasn’t received a home console port since the PS2 remake that was included in the SEGA Classics Collection and SEGA Ages 2500 line in 2004. Once again, M2 will be handling development duties but there is currently no set release date.
See below for the first screenshots of Virtua Racing in action on the Switch:
Virtua Racing joins Sonic the Hedgehog and Thunder Force IV in the Nintendo Switch’s SEGA Ages line. Future SEGA Ages releases also include Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Gain Ground, Space Harrier, Out Run, Columns II, Thunder Force AC and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Project Judge (also known as Judge Eyes in Japan) will feature some interesting SEGA arcade titles in its in-game arcades.
First up we have a fresh port of AM2’s 1995 fighting game Fighting Vipers, which has previously appeared on Saturn as well as receiving modern HD ports for Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012.
The more interesting announcement is that 1997’s Motor Raid is receiving a port. This futuristic, motorcycle racing game features combat similar to Road Rash and this port will be the first time it’s ever appeared on a home system. Interested in how this plays? Our buddies at Saturn Memories did a video on it a while back:
Project Judge will release as Judge Eyes in Japan on the 13th of December 2018 for PS4. It is an original title from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios set in the same world as the Yakuza franchise. A Western release is scheduled for sometime in 2019.
As previously reported, the owner of what is thought to be the only SEGASonic Bros arcade board in existence has brought the game along to the California Extreme arcade expo. The game is open to play by all paying attendees and thanks to this, we now have the very first footage of the game in action. See below for 2 videos showcasing the game in action:
It’s been a while since we last heard about the unreleased SEGASonic Bros. arcade game that was discovered by Tumblr user ShouTime, but it appears he’s bringing the game to the California Extreme arcade show this weekend.
The game will be fully playable at the show, specifically at the exA-Arcadia booth. Hopefully an attendee will see fit to film the game in action so we can finally see some off-screen footage of it. Currently there’s only a selection of screenshots from ShouTime himself available to view online.
California Extreme takes place on the 28th and 29th of July. Full details can be obtained via the official website. Tickets are available on the door.
Please note that we are currently in the process of reorganising the SEGA Book Catalogue so that every entry now has its own page on the website. The landing page where you can browse the various books is currently under construction and might look a little weird at the moment, but we are working to resolve this as soon as possible.
SEGA’s UK arcade division, SEGA Amusements, has revealed that they are bringing the previously Japan exclusive House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn to Western territories.
The company haven’t revealed much else apart from the above announcement image with the phrase “coming soon” attached to it.
House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn is the latest title in The House of the Dead franchise and developed by SEGA Japan’s SEGA Interactive division. The game uses Unreal Engine 4 and features some of the most intense crowds of zombies the franchise has ever included. You can watch some direct feed footage of the game in action by clicking the below embed:
Two additional games have been announced for the upcoming SEGA AGES releases for Nintendo Switch – Alex Kidd in Miracle World, and Gain Ground.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World is the second Master System title to be announced, while Gain Ground marks the first arcade game announcement for the series.
Currently, all is known is that they’ll be part of the collection, with no details divulged as far as extra features. However, we’d be surprised if Gain Ground didn’t take advantage of the Switch’s potential for Tate Mode!
It’s also been revealed that Sonic 1 will include the Mega Play arcade version, and that Phantasy Star will inherit its features from the PS2 AGES Collection release.
The games will start being released in Summer, with a simultaneous worldwide release planned.
When Tracker isn’t playing SEGA games, he’s talking about SEGA games. Or drawing about SEGA games. Or all of the above. You can also catch him over on Twitter.
The PS4 home console port of SEGA’s previously arcade exclusive title Border Break has finally been set for August 2nd 2018 in Japan.
The game will be available as a free-to-play digital release that supports micro-transactions, but a boxed copy and a paid digital version will include extra bonuses. These bonuses basically amount to various in game items like an exclusive mech (or “border”) to use, additional parts for the mech (including customisable skins) and digital currency to be used for unlocking items, weapons and mechs in the in-game shop.
Border Break is currently a Japan exclusive PS4 title set to release on August 2nd 2018.
The lovely people over at ThrowBack Tokyo have recorded some extensive off-screen footage of House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn in action at the recent location test in Akihabara. As the footage shows, it’s very much the House of the Dead sequel we’ve all been waiting for, complete with campy voice acting and over-the-top, zombie-shooting action. Like The House of Dead 4, the violence has been toned down somewhat, with the zombies now burning away when they’re dispatched. However, the amount of on-screen zombies has been drastically increased. Click the embed below to see for yourself:
SEGA Japan have revealed a new House of the Dead arcade title called House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn. This will be the first new House of the Dead title since The House of the Dead: Overkill in 2009 and the first Japanese-produced House of the Dead since The House of the Dead EX, also released in 2009.
Location tests start at the Akihabara Club SEGA arcade on the 19th of January 2018. There is currently no word on a Western release or a home console port at this time.
