E3 is almost upon us, and SEGA fans already have somewhere to look – PCGamer’s PC Gaming Show event, part of the expo that runs June 11th.
The event has stated several companies will be presenting “world premiere” announcements and “enticing reveals” at the show, and amongst the companies listed is SEGA. There’s a wide array of possibilities as to what this could be – we could see something from SEGA Europe’s more strategy-orientated side, or it may be time to fire up the good ol’ porting machine again. Certainly there’s no shortage of requests for SEGA ports to Steam, so it’d be welcome; though likewise I’m sure there’s plenty of strategy fans waiting for the latest from SEGA Europe’s studios. Of course, perhaps it could be something completely different!
The PC Gaming Show is on June 11th at 3pm PT – that’s 11pm UK time.

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Valkyria Chronicles 4, showing off the squad you’ll be battling with in the game (including a medic dog!). In addition, SEGA has also revealed a rather nice “Memoirs From Battle” premium edition will be releasing in Europe and America, featuring a whopping 100-page artbook based on and a model of the game’s Hafen tank. It’ll also include two bonus missions, featuring Squad 7 of the original Valkyria Chronicles.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is due out in Autumn 2018, with no firm release date in place as of yet.
Dengeki Playstation has exclusively revealed that PS4 remasters of Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 are happening and the first release will be Yakuza 3 on August 9th 2018. This is currently only confirmed for a Japanese release, but it will include a download code for the game’s original soundtrack and will cost 3990 yen.
The Yakuza 4 remaster will then arrive in an “Autumn 2018” launch window, with Yakuza 5 set of Spring 2019. The only improvements confirmed for all 3 games so far is increased resolution and higher framerates. There is currently no word on whether these are Kiwami-style remakes with new and exclusive content.
Two friends of SEGADriven, TitansCreed and The British Andy will be embarking on a 27th anniversary Sonic the Hedgehog stream on June 23rd 2018 in order to raise money for the Special Effect charity for disabled gamers.
Both TitansCreed and The British Andy will be racing each other to finish 12 Sonic titles each. It’s a very unique pair of marathons that aims to raise money for a very special cause. Both streams will run concurrently on TitansCreed’s Twitch channel and The British Andy’s Twitch channel from 5pm BST on June 23rd.
You can donate to TitansCreed and The British Andy’s cause by visiting the Race for Good JustGiving page. They will be taking donations all the way up to the end of the event, so if you have some spare change to throw at a good cause, then why not this one?
Check out the full details of the stream in the following trailer:
Some unfortunate news for the musically inclined – several SEGA OSTs that were previously available for streaming on Spotify have suddenly vanished from the service.
SEGA doesn’t appear to have mentioned the removals on any social media accounts or statements, making the removals rather mysterious. It’s a pretty sizeable set of removals too; the affected soundtracks include:
UPDATE (16:30) – Screenshots from SEGA Press have now been added.
Original Post:
A new trailer for Sonic Mania’s upcoming Plus edition has been released, giving us our first look at new characters Mighty and Ray in action – as well as a July 17th release date.
The trailer also shows some new animation in the style of previous trailers, as well as a glimpse at the game’s new “Encore Mode”. At a glance, this appears to rework the colour schemes of the levels; it’s not yet clear if it does anything else, though previews from Famitsu have indicated there may be more to the mode – including what appears to be Angel Island becoming playable. The trailer theme is a remix of the previous pre-order trailer song, “Time Trials” by Hyper Potions, though now with a helping of guitar from none other than Jun Senoue!
Sonic Mania Plus will launch physically on July 17th for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. For owners of the original (and the PC version), a paid DLC update will be available.
A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Western release of Shining Resonance Refrain, introducing the game’s heroes.
In addition, the game now has a firm release date, and there’s not long to go. The game launches in both the Americas and Europe on July 10th, for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. As a reminder, the game is a remake of the original Japan-exclusive Shining Resonance, with the presentation touched up and all of the original game’s DLC included; and localised into English, of course.
All launch run copies also include a steelbook case, dubbed the Draconic Launch Edition.
You can catch a full gallery of the range below. It’s somewhat reminiscent of the fantastic DropDead x Sonic range we got here in the UK, and we’re definitely down for that Eggman shirt. However as we mentioned in our last article, sadly THUNDERBOX do not offer worldwide shipping from their site. If you’ve got a friend in Japan, now’s the time to call in a favour.
