SEGADriven is a SEGA news and information source that focuses on SEGA's console history, retro games and new software hitting the shelves. We want to share a love of great, quirky, clever and down-right fun games - something that SEGA have always specialised in. See below for the latest news, reviews and features added to the website.
SEGA’s Japanese exclusive racing series Initial D is headed back to the arcades for a 7th installment (that’s right, 7! Any chance of a Western release for some of these games, please SEGA?). The game is called Initial D Arcade Stage 7 AAX (bit of a mouthful) and there’s a new trailer available to watch now:
How did we miss this? Our good friends at SEGA Memories found this 2 hour collection of SEGA footage from various UK TV shows and adverts that was compiled by YouTube user DodgyKebaab. It’s a fascinating watch:
SEGA Memories being the awesome chaps they are have actually picked a few highlights and the exact times they appear. Click here to see it.
1) Update all the information in the book to be as accurate as can be.
2) Add more sources, quotes, and original text to help tell the story through the eyes of the people who experienced it.
3) Add more pictures to help tell the story.
4) Hire a real (expensive) editor to correct all mistakes and to enhance the readers experience. This will take almost 60% of the budget.
5) Get professionally done artwork on the cover to make this book as appealing outside as it is inside. This will take roughly 10% of the budget.
On top of that you can even pledge for hard copies of the book in many different styles (paperback, hardback, black and white, colour etc). It’s certainly an interesting little project and for those who like a good video-game inspired read it’ll certainly be well worth a pledge.
A new trailer for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has appeared detailing all the different gamepaly modes available in the game. Check it out:
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed drops on UK soil November 16th 2012 for X-Box 360 and PS3. The Wii-U version follows on November 30th and 3DS and PS Vita versions launch at a later date that is still unconfirmed.
Now SEGA have announced a firm date for a Western release of Platinum Games’ Anarchy Reigns the trailers have come rolling in! What follows is 3 character trailers for the game due 11th of January 2013 on X-Box 360 and PS3:
2 new videos have appeared featuring more new gameplay from Yakuza 5. The first shows off Kiryu’s new taxi and racing gameplay which looks brilliantly realistic and over the top in equal measure:
The second takes a more serious tone and shows Saejima hunting wildlife in a snowy scenario. What this has to do with the story I’m not entirely sure:
Yakuza 5 is set for a Japanese release on December 6th 2012. No Western release has been announced at this time.
Platinum Games have revealed that the long delayed Western release of Anarchy Reigns on X-Box 360 and PS3 is finally happening in January 2013. The Americans get it on January 8th for $29.99 while the UK and Europe get it on January 11th for £19.99/€24.99. That’s right; we get a budget priced version!
Anarchy Reigns has been out in Japan since July 5th under the title Max Anarchy. The game had infamously gone gold complete with English language versions for the July 5th release date but SEGA decided against a summer launch and delayed it for unknown reasons.
1UP have released a special article to mark the 20th anniversary of the North American release of the Mega-CD (known as the SEGA-CD in that territory). It’s a cool little read and they name a handful of their favourite games, some of which are US exclusive.
Subscribers to our YouTube channel will know I’m a big fan of the Mega-CD and love collecting for it. It’s a home to my favourite Sonic game ever and there’s a certain allure to collecting for it as the games are usually quite experimental in nature.
Viking: Battle for Asgard is finally available on PC thanks to the porting work of Hardlight Studio. The original game launched on X-Box 360 and PS3 back in 2008 and was developed by The Creative Assembly.
The game currently costs £9.99 on the Steam Store.
SEGA of Japan are releasing Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Striker, Fighting vipers and Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On for the Japanese XBLA and PSN services. Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers will be bundled together as a $15 3 game pack on PSN all with online versus modes. This pack will come out during Autumn 2012 while the others are due “winter 2013” but we think this might be a typo and it’s actually 2012.
More interestingly is the fact that Sonic the Fighters is an expanded version that makes Metal Sonic and Eggman playable as well as the dumped character Honey the Cat. Now that was unexpected!
Unfortunately there is no word on a Western release at this time.
