SEGADriven is a SEGA news and information source that focuses on SEGA's console history, retro games and new software hitting the shelves. We want to share a love of great, quirky, clever and down-right fun games - something that SEGA have always specialised in. See below for the latest news, reviews and features added to the website.
Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom is now available to download on iOS devices worldwide.
The free-to-play endless runner is a sequel to Hardlight’s original Sonic Dash but now with some new abilities, branching paths and a visual connection to the Sonic Boom animated series. You can check out the launch trailer below and download the game from iOS by clicking here:
An Android release is also due but there’s no word on a release date outside of “coming soon”.
You can now pre-order Yakuza 5-themed avatars on the PSN store. The pre-order date? 5th of November. Could this be a clue as to the game’s Western release date? Quite possibly.
The avatars are actually marked as Yakuza 5-themed items and you can pre-order them by clicking here. Why you’d want to pre-order tiny images for 25p is beyond me but that’s a thing you can do if you’re losing your grip on reality. Happy times!
Yakuza 5 should launch exclusively on PS3 via the PSN store on November 5th. Should.
If the surprise announcement that Sonic Lost World was finding its way to PC wasn’t exciting enough then you’ll be pleased to know that SEGA are also planning to release more of their games on PC “in the coming months and years”.
John Clark, VP of Commercial Publishing for SEGA Europe has said, “This is the latest in a string of high quality PC ports of past SEGA titles that we will be building on in the coming months and years.” SEGA seems to have its sights set on expanding its business in the PC gaming category which makes sense when you remember that the PC release of Valkyria Chronicles became a bit of a surprise hit for SEGA.
There is currently no word on what games will be making their way to PC but hopefully it means more of SEGA’s console exclusives like Resonance of Fate, Sonic Colours and Vanquish get a wider release.
The first SEGA console 3DS theme to make the big move from Japan to Western eShops is a Game Gear one. You can check out a short video of it in action by clicking here.
SEGA had been previously teasing the launch of the console 3DS themes with a short soundbyte that also confirms the existence of the Dreamcast theme. You can check that out by clicking here.
More news on release dates and what other console themes SEGA decide to make the jump to the West as we get it.
All of a sudden, Sonic Lost World is no longer a Wii U exclusive and is now on its way to PC!
Sonic Team’s latest Sonic outing can now be pre-ordered on Steam for £19.99 and you also get a free copy of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (this will only be available during pre-order). The game officially launches on November 2nd.
This is great news for PC Sonic fans as SEGA’s PC ports are generally very well handled and in the case of Sonic Generations, they also open up wonderful modding opportunities.
Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom will be launching on iOS and Android ‘soon’.
The game was previously soft-launched on Android devices in certain countries in a similar way to Sonic Runners, but now the game is ready for its full launch.
As the sequel to Sonic Dash, the game features similar endless running gameplay to the original but with new gimmicks such as using the enerbeam to lock onto sky-rails. The game also takes its visual cues from the Sonic Boom animated series.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the Western release of Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax and then all of a sudden there’s a new character roster trailer to check out (see below) and news of the game’s US release which is next week!
The game launches on the PSN store on October 6th. This is for both the PS3 and PS Vita versions. Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax is a cross-franchise fighting game featuring characters from anime and manga series’ like Sword Art Online. There’s also some cheeky SEGA cameos as well:
Yellow Bulldog have begun pre-orders on a new Sonic Christmas jumper design and unlike the one that was released last year, this is actually a proper knitted jumper design instead of just a print that was made to look like a knitted design.
The jumper is £34.99 and shipping will begin on the 24th of October. Click here to go to the item page on Yellow Bulldog and slap down a pre-order if you’re interested in looking like a bit of a tit (yes I understand that is the point of Christmas jumpers, calm down).
You can now see Takeshi Kitano’s in-game Yakuza 6 character in this new video. Check it out below:
Details of Takeshi’s character are still scarce with no details on the character’s name or backstory at this time. Yakuza 6 is currently scheduled for an Autumn 2016 release on PS4. A Western release is not planned at this time.
3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 finally has a release date! The stereoscopic 3D remaster by M2 hits the 3DS eShop on the 8th of October.
Outside the obvious addition of stereoscopic 3D visuals, the only major change to this version of Sonic 2 comes with the ability to save anywhere and play multiplayer co-op or vs modes with each player on a dedicated device. Also included is a new unlockable Super Sonic mode which allows you to activate Super Sonic at any point in the game.
