Idola: Phantasy Star Saga Announced, RPG for Smartphones

Wednesday, July 25th, 2018

After being teased just a few days ago,  SEGA has now announced Idola: Phantasy Star Saga, a new RPG title in the Phantasy Star series. The game is exclusive to iOS and Android devices, and will launch this year in Japan.

The game sees the resurrection of the amusingly-named “Dark Farce”, in a world ravaged by huge monsters named Idola. You’ll be using a “command-based battle system”, which SEGA intend to detail more in the future. Also confirmed are a slew of characters, including the main heroine Stella – fully translated bios for these characters can be found on Gematsu.

The team behind the game includes veterans of the Valkyria series, as well as Sakura Wars and of course Phantasy Star itself. There’s (unsurprisingly) no word on an English release, but we’ll keep an eye out in case one gets announced.

Phantasy Star 30th Anniversary RPG for Smartphones Teased, Countdown Site Opened

Friday, July 20th, 2018

SEGA has launched a countdown site, teasing the reveal of a new entry in the Phantasy Star RPG franchise. However, it’s for smartphones. Take that as you will.

Currently, there’s no real details on what the game itself entails – whether it’ll be taking after the stylings of the original series, or the more modern Online universe for instance. Saying that, the artwork definitely has us expecting something more akin to the former, and it may well be that it combines the two – it’s a 30th Anniversary celebration, after all.

The game will be announced on July 24th at 4am UK time.

New SEGA Ages Titles by M2 Coming to Nintendo Switch, Including Sonic, Thunder Force & Phantasy Star

Saturday, April 14th, 2018

UPDATE 20:10

Some more details have come to light since the announcement, mostly courtesy of Sam Mullen, producer at Atlus USA. Most notable of these is the confirmation that the set will include more than just Mega Drive titles – arcade games will be included too. In addition, Mullen confirmed that “every game will have something new.”

Finally, it’s been revealed by Thunder Force IV’s presence at SEGA Fes itself that it includes “Styx Mode”, previously exclusive to the Saturn’s Thunder Force Gold Pack 2. This mode allows you to play as the Thunder Force 3 ship.

More info on the new AGES series will be released at tomorrow’s “Classic Game Stage” event, as part of SEGA Fes. We’ll bring you any new announcements that come from it.

ORIGINAL POST

M2 are back and are leading development of up to 15 new SEGA ports of classic titles for the Nintendo Switch.

The new SEGA Ages collection will feature ports of Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star and Thunder Force IV which is currently playable on the show floor at SEGA Fes 2018. It is likely that Thunder Force IV will end up being the first title in the series to launch, but there is currently no news on a release date.

SEGA Comment on PSO2 Western Release; Simply Delayed

Friday, September 20th, 2013

SEGA have commented on the Phantasy Star Online 2 Western release situation. Yesterday a SEGA representitive apparently made a comment that a Western release of Phantasy Star Online 2 was completely out of the question.

However, Kellie Parker of SEGA America has said:

“Originally slated for an early 2013 launch, SEGA can officially confirm that PS02 has been delayed. We don’t have any specifics but will update everyone as soon as there are more details to share.”

While this obviously means the game is still not due for release in the West any time soon it does mean that a release is still on the cards. Hopefully a revised release date will be announced soon.
