IDOLA Phantasy Star Saga Now Available on Android and iOS In 140 Territories from Boltrend Games

Thursday, September 17th, 2020

IDOLA Phantasy Star Saga, the latest mobile entry in the beloved Phantasy Star series, is now available to download in 140 territories, including North America, for both iOS and Android. The release comes via Boltrend Games.

Via Boltrend’s PR:

IDOLA Phantasy Star Saga was produced by Shuntaro Tanaka, recognized writer and producer, Tomomasa Chin, the supervising director, and Sho Mutsuura, the art director together with the original team in SEGA, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Phantasy Star series in Japan. Soundtrack was done by Kenichi Tokoi, also composer of the music in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

While the game is not available in Europe at the moment, Boltrend’s PR has now confirmed that a European release is planned for the future, which is great to hear. We’ve also received clarification on the game’s connectivity to Phantasy Star Online 2, or lack thereof; while the EN version of the game cannot connect to PSO2, SEGA has released a code for the Visiphone that will reward players with 200 SG. So that’s nice!

As soon as information becomes available on a European release, we’ll let you know.

You can get the game for Android devices here, or for iOS devices here.

IDOLA: Phantasy Star Saga English Pre-Registration Now Open for iOS and Android, Planned to Launch September 17th

Wednesday, August 19th, 2020

We recently reported that Boltrend Games were bringing SEGA’s mobile title IDOLA: Phantasy Star Saga to the West, with a open beta. Well, it turns out there’s not long to wait until the full release; as pre-registration is now open for the game, with the iOS App Store giving a release date of September 17th.

There is a bit of a downside to this news, as the game sadly isn’t coming to Europe as of right now; it’s available globally everywhere save for Europe, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. Trying to access the game via the App Store here in the UK turns up an error message. It might be too early to totally rule out a European release though – just look at Phantasy Star Online 2, after all. That, and Twinfinite states the game is actually planned to launch specifically in the UK, so this might change quicker than we think.

You can get the iOS App Store version here and the Google Play version here.

The Google Play Store is accessible at least, and gives us a run-down of the title (after the jump): (more…)

IDOLA: Phantasy Star Saga Launching in English From Boltrend Games, Open Beta Test Applications Open

Tuesday, August 4th, 2020

It’s a pretty good time to be a Phantasy Star fan, as the mobile title IDOLA: Phantasy Star Saga is getting an official English release!

The game, originally released to promote the 30th Anniversary of the Phantasy Star series, will be receiving an Open Beta Test, launching August 5th and lasting until August 10th. It’ll contain the first six chapters of the game’s story and the Arena Battle mode. Currently, there’s no solid word on what regions this English release is intended for, though our friend CorBond was unable to access the game from the Netherlands. We were able to join the Testing Program from the UK, but we lack an Android device to confirm whether we could actually access the game.

You can sign up for the Beta Test here. Boltrend are also on Twitter.

It’s certainly a surprising announcement; we do wonder if they’ll somehow incorporate the bonuses the Japanese version has for connecting the game to Phantasy Star Online 2. Only time will tell!

Idola: Phantasy Star Saga Announced, RPG for Smartphones

Wednesday, July 25th, 2018

After being teased just a few days ago,  SEGA has now announced Idola: Phantasy Star Saga, a new RPG title in the Phantasy Star series. The game is exclusive to iOS and Android devices, and will launch this year in Japan.

The game sees the resurrection of the amusingly-named “Dark Farce”, in a world ravaged by huge monsters named Idola. You’ll be using a “command-based battle system”, which SEGA intend to detail more in the future. Also confirmed are a slew of characters, including the main heroine Stella – fully translated bios for these characters can be found on Gematsu.

The team behind the game includes veterans of the Valkyria series, as well as Sakura Wars and of course Phantasy Star itself. There’s (unsurprisingly) no word on an English release, but we’ll keep an eye out in case one gets announced.
