Eurogamer have reported that a report released by Wikileaks details Al Qaeda plans to use SEGA cartridges as bombs in attacks during 2002. The report specifically mentions that Khalid Shaikh Mohammed had stockpiled bombs hidden in “black SEGA videogame cassette cartridges”.
“These RCFDs (remote controlled firing devices) were built inside black Sega videogame cassette cartridges to protect the RCFDs and to make them appear innocuous.” Guantánamo inmate Hassan Mohammed Ali Bin Attash was also shown how to make remote detonators out of the game cartridges.
The report doesn’t detail that the devices were ever used so if you’re ordering loose Mega Drive cartridges off eBay, be careful they don’t explode! (This is a joke. Only a select few of my MD carts have ever exploded.)
DCEvolution have put together a page of Beats of Rage mods for the Dreamcast. Some are old and some are new. They all use the fantastic OpenBOR engine and generally offer some great beat-em-up action for Dreamcast owners needing to scratch that itch. Phantasy Star Online 2 is the next game in the acclaimed series of RPGs. It’s a direct sequel to Phantasy Star Online which first appeared on Dreamcast in December 2000. Take a look below to see the first gameplay footage of the game:
The game is due to be released later this year for PC. No details of a console version have been revealed at this time.
Golden Axe Myth is a new Golden Axe fangame developed using OpenBOR; a Streets of Rage-style engine made specifically to power the development of side-scrolling beat-em-ups. The game has recently been released along with a downloadable soundtrack and art ‘book’.
Unlike a lot of OpenBOR games, the graphics for Golden Axe Myth are completely drawn from the ground up giving the game a completely unique look. Take a look at some gameplay footage below:

I think it’s safe to say the Hedgehog Engine that made it’s debut in Sonic Unleashed is definitely powering Sonic Generations. You could easily mistake this video for the announcement of new DLC for Unleashed!
We’ve spoken about Hez’s Sonic the Hedgehog Classic before and had much praise for it. Sonic Classic is a 16 bit style fan-game created in MMF. The project has come along leaps and bounds since the last time we mentioned it. So much so that it’s finally been released!
SEGA have announced a new, free-to-play online MMO for PC called Spiral Knights. The game is being developed by Three Rings who are also responsible for Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates. As is typical for MMOs, the game is of the sword combat and magic variety but with a rather cute and inoffensive presentation. Check out the announcement trailer below:
My Mega CD addiction continues! This time we’ve got Batman Returns, developed by Malibu Interactive.
The game is actually a continuation of the film’s storyline and not an interpretation of it. The Mega CD version adds extra Batmobile stages to the original Mega Drive version’s platforming stages as well as a new soundtrack composed by Spencer Nilsen.
Ever wanted to shunt baddies off the road in an invincible death-mobile and watch them explode like in the films? Well Road Avenger is the game for you!
