3 new soundtrack collections of Out Run music have appeared on Amazon.
The 3 collections also feature the new songs by Manabu Namiki and Chibi-Tech that were added to 3D Out Run which is currently Japan exclusive. We can only hope that their inclusion in these collections means a Western release is on the cards.
Volume 1 contains music from Out Run, 3D Out Run and Turbo Out Run, volume 2 contains the full soundtrack to OutRunners and volume 3 contains the full soundtracks to all the iterations of Out Run 2.
First things first; yes, Marble Madness is an Atari arcade game and not a SEGA game per se, but we at SEGADriven regard any game published for a SEGA first party console fair game for feature on the website. As Marble Madness was released for Master System, Game Gear and Mega Drive it’s entirely relevant to us.
Now that’s out of the way, allow me to present ‘Where Good Marbles Go to Die’; a Marble Madness remix album courtesy of Stemage. The hard rock/heavy metal remix album tackles the entire Marble Madness soundtrack and features guest appearances from Disasterpeace, Lauren Liebowitz of Descendants of Erdrick, norg, XOC, Kirby Pufocia, housethegrate and VikingGuitar.
You can stream the entire thing using the below widget or alternatively download it at a pay-what-you-want price-point. Sadly the limited edition cassette version of the album is now sold out but at least it’s available digitally, right?
It’s not often someone sends you a message saying “here’s a video I made featuring a cover of the Monster Village theme from Wonder Boy III. Also it’s been done on a banjo.” Well that’s exactly what happened to me recently and the video was supplied by a certain Ollie LongZ; a talented little musician who has recently taken to arranging banjo covers of video game themes. Check out the impressive little arrangement below:
Here’s hoping Ollie has more SEGA covers up his sleeve, but if you’re interested you can check out another of Ollie’s cover’s by clicking here (it’s a Castlevania one).
It’s been a while since we took a look back at some classic SEGA anthems and I thought it was worth featuring the below track simply because it’s been stuck in my head all morning!
Today we are taking a look at the rather lovely 8 bit ditty that is the theme to Jungle Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog for Master System and Gamer Gear. The track was composed by Yuzo Koshiro who is more famously recognised for his thumping, dance style and the Streets of Rage soundtracks.
The Sonic the Hedgehog 8 bit soundtrack showcases Yuzo Koshiro in a lighter, more poppier mood yet still manages to be a highly memorable collection of songs. Hopefully you will all be whistling the Jungle Zone theme once you’re done with this!
Crush 40 have uploaded live footage of them playing ‘His World’, the theme to Sonic the Hedgehog ’06. The footage comes from the band’s complete line-up set in Tokyo, March 30th 2012. The song is also featured on Crush 40′s ‘LIVE!’ album which is available to purchase now. Check it out:
MegaDriver have uploaded their entire live set from MagFest 12. The show includes a huge setlist of various video game themes rearranged in the band’s signature heavy metal style. SEGA highlights include music from Revenge of the Shinobi, Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe and Out Run. Check it out below:
MegaDriver’s appearance at MagFest 12 was their first show outside of Brazil ever. An mp3 “bootleg” version of the show will appear on MegaDriver’s website for free download soon.
The 45th OC Remix album is almost upon us and this time the community have remixed the Sonic CD soundtrack! On the 25th of November OC Remix will release ‘Sonic CD: Temporal Duality’; a 3 disc compilation of Sonic CD remixes from a huge selection of musicians. Check out the trailer for the project below:
Acapella internet sensation Smooth McGroove returns with some more SEGA love for Shining Force 2. Check out the man’s sultry vocal rearrangement of the Elven Town theme below:
Scottish internet metal sensation Girlz Melon returns with an absolutely ripping take on Oil Ocean Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Check out the video below:
More details have emerged in regards to Michael Jackson’s involvement in the Sonic 3 soundtrack and it’s coming from an unlikely source. Brad Buxer who used to play keyboards in The Jetzons was working with Jackson on the soundtrack to the game but in a previous interview he wasn’t aware of what songs made it into the final release.
A staff member over at Sonic Retro has discovered an amazing similarity with a Jetzons song called ‘Hard Times’. Check out the song below and you might be surprised as to how similar it is to a song that features on the Sonic 3 soundtrack:
Yep, that melody is unmistakably Ice Cap! What an amazing find!
