SEGA and Medal Dash Announce “Sonic Challenge”, A Virtual Run With New Merchandise Up For Grabs

March 1st, 2022

SEGA has announced a collaboration with virtual marathon company Medal Dash; they’ll be putting on a Sonic-themed ‘virtual run’.

The idea is simple: run or walk 5K, 10K or 13.1 miles by the end of 2022, and you’ll get Sonic merch. That said, this is a paid event with limited slots, so it’s not just freebies. Sign-ups start at $34.95, and the swag on offer includes a die-cast medal, a running bib and some shirts.

It’s certainly a fitting way to leverage the Sonic brand, even if our aging brains can’t quite wrap our head around the entire ‘virtual run’ concept. The website does mention participants across the world, so it would seem this is open to UK residents too.

The official website is available here.

Sonic Hacking Contest Returns October 2022 | Fan Scene

February 27th, 2022

The Sonic Hacking Contest will return for the week starting October 10th 2022. The annual Sonic the Hedgehog modding contest is now accepting submissions until September 4th 2022 and September 25th for expo entries.

Expo entries are not judged so if your project is earlier in its development cycle and you’d like to give a wider audience an opportunity to experience your early work for feedback then this is the category for you. Contest entries will receive criticism from the panel of judges and also be eligible to win trophies, of which there are a handful of new ones for 2022’s contest.

A full list of information about contest categories, trophies judging and how to submit a hack or mod to this year’s Sonic Hacking Contest can be found on the contest’s official website. As per usual, SEGADriven will be running video coverage of the event during contest week, so subscribe to our YouTube channel which already hosts a large quantity of video features on various Sonic hacks and mods like the one below:

Wonder Boy Collection Announced for Switch and PS4

February 22nd, 2022

ININ have revealed they will be publishing a Wonder Boy Collection for PS4 and Switch. The announcement trailer features the Master System versions of Wonder Boy and Wonder Boy in Monster Land, alongside the Mega Drive versions of Wonder Boy in Monster World and Monster World IV.

Development duties on the collection is being handled by BlissBrain. What’s strange is that the information on the BlissBrain site and ININ site actually pictures the arcade versions of Wonder Boy and Wonder Boy in Monster Land, so it is currently not clear if the collection features the Master System versions, the arcade versions or both.

The Wonder Boy Collection will be published digitally by BlissBrain and ININ and physically by Strictly Limited Games. Pre-orders for the collection from Strictly Limited games will go live “soon”. There is currently no word on a firm release date for the collection. All titles in the collection are officially under license from SEGA. ININ had previously published the Monster World IV remake Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World.
