Co-producers Wildbrain previously announced that the show will run for 24 episodes and currently only 8 have aired, debuting back in December 2022. Netflix have not revealed how many episodes will drop on July 13th, but I think it’s safe to assume it will be another 8.

New Sonic Prime Trailer Confirms December 15th 2022 Release Date

Friday, October 28th, 2022

The latest Sonic Prime trailer showcases our first look at Sonic’s dimension hopping action via the Paradox Prism and also confirms that the series will premiere on Netflix on December 15th 2022.

Dr. Eggman clearly has other plans for his newly acquired treasure, the Paradox Prism, but when Sonic smashes into it, he is flung into another dimension where he meets his friends from a world where Dr. Eggman has already taken over. This is remarkably similar in style to the Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM show from 1993. Sonic and his pals are even referred to as “rebels”. Check it out below:

ORIGINAL STORY

The first footage of the upcoming Sonic Prime animated series coming to Netflix has arrived.

A new video showcasing a large range of upcoming shows in Netflix’s new Netflix After School block has brought with it the first look at Sonic Prime, and while it’s short little clip, it does manage to feature an accurate portrayal of Sonic as he appears in the games, running through Green Hill Zone. Check it out below:

What’s interesting is Sonic’s voice which clearly belongs to a new voice actor entirely. There is currently no official word on who is voicing Sonic in Sonic Prime.

Sonic Prime Announced for Netflix, 24 Episode Series Launches in 2022

Monday, February 1st, 2021

Netflix have officially announced Sonic Prime, a new animated series coming to to the service in 2022 from Wildbrain Entertainment.

Wildbrain have released a press release, with the following summary:

The 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the “Blue Blur” of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.

The series will be animated at WildBrain’s Vancouver studio, and SEGA and WildBrain will jointly participate across production, distribution and licensing. Man of Action Entertainment, creators of Ben 10 and the characters and team in the Academy Award-winning feature Big Hero 6, have been brought on as showrunners and Executive Producers for the series.

It’s certainly an interesting premise, but it remains to be seen what this show will actually look like. More recently, Man of Action dipped their toes into the video game pond with Mega Man: Fully Charged, which… didn’t go down particularly well. Hopefully we’ll see some bits later this year.

You can find the full press release here.

Sonic 3D Animated Series Coming to Netflix From Man Of Action Entertainment and WildBrain

Thursday, December 10th, 2020

Netflix have announced a new 3D animated series based on Sonic the Hedgehog will be coming to the service in 2022.

The series will be produced by Man of Action Entertainment (Ben 10, Mega Man: Fully Charged) and WildBrain (The Aquabats Super Show!). SEGA will also be involved, and going off the teaser image, it seems it’ll be based on the video game series rather than the movie.

A new Sonic animated series has been rumoured for a while, so it’s exciting to see one finally happening! Now how do we pass the time until 2022…

Sonic X Coming to US Netflix December 1st 2019

Monday, November 18th, 2019

Seasons 1 and 2 of the Sonic X anime are heading to the North American version of Netflix on December 1st 2019. This means the first 52 episodes of the show that ran from 2003 to 2005 will be available for viewing.

If you’re unfamiliar with Sonic X then you’ll be unfamiliar with its plot where Sonic and his friends are accidentally transported to Earth. It’s very similar in scope to the upcoming film from Paramount Pictures, except that Sonic befriends a child named Chris Thorndyke instead of a police officer.

There is currently no word on when/if the remaining 26 episodes of season 3 will be hitting the platform. It is also worth mentioning that there is currently no definitive word on which regions outside North America will receive Sonic X. Spain, Mexico and Argentina are also confirmed. Thanks to Ash the Dragon for the news tip.
