Yoshi’s Island Themed DLC Now Available for Sonic Lost World, Zelda DLC Rumoured for Next Year

Wednesday, December 18th, 2013

In scenes that would make my 6 year old self vomit copiously in pure shock, Sonic Lost World has received a DLC stage themed around Yoshi’s Island. It’s available on the Wii-U eShop now and it’s a free download. Check out the announcement trailer below:

In today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, Satoru Iwata also said the following:

“Fans will be able to ‘Link’ their Wii U systems to the Nintendo E-Shop early next year to download this DLC as well.”

Many fans are taking this hint as a confirmation of Zelda-themed DLC for Sonic Lost World in the new year. All this SEGA/Nintendo collaborative DLC is making my head hurt!

3D After Burner II Coming to Japanese 3DS eShop Next Week

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

Japan are getting a second wave of 3DS SEGA classics! The first in the series will be After Burner II which launches December 18th, but obviously only for Japan at this time.

From what I can gather from the official website the new version adds:

– Gyro controls
– Stereoscopic 3D visuals
– A stage select
– A music player which can be used in game

The other interesting thing is that this port is based on the arcade version and not the Mega Drive version.

Sonic 2 Remastered Releasing Tomorrow; Hidden Palace Zone is Unlockable

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

Christian “The Taxman” Whitehead returns once again with a Retro Engine-powered port of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Android and iOS devices. The new version of the 16 bit classic launches tomorrow and will be a free update for those who already own the existing port of Sonic 2 for these devices.

Along with the usual enhancements of a widescreen display and more accurate controls, Whitehead has seen fit to add Hidden Palace Zone as an unlockable bonus stage. This is not the Hidden Palace Zone from Sonic & Knuckles either; this is the version that was discovered in Sonic 2 Beta. Whitehead has obviously not left the stage incomplete and has given it a lovely makeover which now includes gimmicks like the water jet you can see above.

Virtua Fighter 20th Anniversary Website Appears

Friday, November 29th, 2013

SEGA of Japan have launched a 20th anniversary Virtua Fighter website. You can access the website by clicking here.

The website is looking a bit sparse at the moment with the only real content being a video of the original game, but the fact that SEGA are acknowledging Virtua Fighter’s 20th anniversary must mean they have something up their sleeve. New merchandise? A sale on existing games? A whole new game altogether!? Only time will tell.

Keep an eye on the website as it also contains a blog which is bound to be updated in the near future. Excitement!

SEGA Trademarks Shenmue III But Don’t Get Too Excited UPDATE SEGA Confirms Trademark is Fake

Wednesday, November 27th, 2013

SEGA have filed a trademark for Shenmue III. This would be big news if it wasn’t for the fact that publishers do this all the time so that their intellectual properties are protected from usurpers.

The interesting thing is that SEGA are obviously still thinking about the series. If the company are aware of the public’s desire for a sequel then at least that can give us some hope that a sequel might still be in consideration/development.

More on this as we get it as the only source we have for the story is currently down due to the immense traffic they’re receiving.

UPDATE
An image of the trademark information is available on SEGAbits’ Facebook page. You can also see this below:

UPDATE 2
The trademark might also relate to the “postmortem” talk Yu Suzuki is doing at GDC 2014. This will discuss the whole of the Shenmue series an an hour-long talk translated by Mark Cerny. GDC runs from March 17th to the 21st in 2014. Sourced from Gamespot.

UPDATE 3
Blimey! More details: SEGA have trademarked Shenmue III through the company R.G.C. Jenkins & Co. This is the same company who handled the Sonic Lost World trademark. You can find it yourself by going to the OHIM website (click here) and searching for Shenmue III.

UDPATE 4
The Shenmue III trademark might be a fake. The trademark lacks an application reference number which would make the trademark legitimate. A similar hoax was recently registered with this same company on November 14th for Fallout 4. The registration was recently removed after it was proven to be a hoax.

UPDATE 5
SEGA has officially confirmed that the trademark is fake and the listing has now been removed. Full details at from Eurogamer.
