House of the Dead 3 & 4 Coming To PSN

Friday, January 6th, 2012

House of the Dead 3 & 4 are going to be re-released in HD for the Playstation Network in 2012! While House of the Dead 3 has been released for every console under the sun, this will be the first time House of the Dead 4 has been released on a home console; no more arcade exclusivity! You can read the full press release below:

“SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON – January 5, 2012 – SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced that legendary horror arcade shooter The House of the Dead 3™ will be coming exclusively to PlayStation®Network on February 7, followed by the arcade shooter The House of the Dead 4™ this spring. Both titles have been updated with HD graphics, trophies, and complete PlayStation®Move support to give players the full arcade The House of the Dead™ experience in their living room.

“The House of the Dead has always been one of SEGA’s most popular series, and over the years we have worked hard to bring that full arcade experience to console owners,” said Haruki Satomi, Senior Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “The abilities of the PlayStation 3, as well as PlayStation Move, have let us get closer than ever before. The only thing these titles are missing is a need for quarters.”

Originally released in 2002, The House of the Dead 3 introduced a number of new elements to the series, including “rescue events,” a shot ranking and grading system that challenges players to shoot both quickly and accurately, and a Boss “cancel” bar that players must fill to fend off devastating attacks. Featuring unique-to-console gameplay mechanics, The House of the Dead 3 can be played using a PlayStation Move controller or a standard PlayStation controller.

The House of the Dead 4 arrived in arcades in 2005, and its upcoming release on PlayStation®Network will be the first time this extremely rare title has ever appeared on a home console. In addition to the run-and-gun-down-creatures gameplay players had come to know and love, this title introduced hidden “treasure rooms” that contain score-boosting items, as well as interactive sequences that force players to push away grabby enemies. Watch out for the biters!”

Yu Suzuki Looking To Get The Shenmue License Back From SEGA

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Yu Suzuki is tugging at our heart-strings again. The man responsible for cult favourite RPG series Shenmue has announced through an interview at Shenmue Master that “Shenmue’s license is an IP that belongs to SEGA” and that “We can obtain the license from SEGA.”

Suzuki is clearly not going to rest until his series is complete. He even went on to reveal a major plot point that will be central to Shenmue III if it ever appears. Referring to an image that has been circulating the internet for some time that features the silhouette of an unknown charatcer, Suzuki said “This is the person who has trained with Iwao [Hazuki] in the olden days in China. Then, in the story that will take place after Shenmue II, he will become a “key” character!”

Fingers crossed that Suzuki is successful in his endevours!

Hyperdimension Neptunia MK-II Has Saucy Dialogue

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Hyperdimension Neptunia MK-II is getting a North American and European release through NIC America and the ESRB have stuck an M for Mature rating on it. Why? Let the ESRB tell you:

“A variety of scenes depict a supernatural villain who harasses female characters and makes sexually suggestive comments (e.g., “Come, come and sit on daddy’s lap. We’ll have fun exploring each other,” “You can be a cunning linguist, my dear,” “I’m dying to leer at her longingly,” and “Mmmm, the height of ecstasy, licking a nubile maiden’s wounds!”/“No, hey stop . . . I said stop it!”)—accompanying licking sounds can be hea”rd off screen.”

Ooooo matron!

For those not in the know, Hyperdimension Neptunia is published by SEGA in Japan and features many tongue-in-cheek references to the games industry. MK-II is the sequel to the original game and will release in both North America and Europe in February 2012.

SEGADriven Awarded Most Underrated SEGA/Sonic Website 2011

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Premier Sonic site Sonic Wrecks and one of our faithful affiliates have awarded us ‘Most Underrated SEGA/Sonic Website 2011’ in their year end awards. They had this to say:

“It’s somewhat a testament to its author Lewis “Sonic Yoda” Clark that the site is still going. Now a TSSNET site, I’m a big fan of SEGA Driven’s review and reporting style as well as their deep passion for SEGA past and present. Oft overlooked, in fact it’s original guise as Sonic Yoda won this award in the 2007 SWAs.

Do yourself a favour some time and check the site out, especially the reviews section.”

I am incredibly humbled to have the site acknowledged in this way and would like to thank both Sonic Wrecks for the kind words and The Sonic Stadium for being such a brilliant host.
