Yukio Futatsugi’s spiritual sequel to SEGA Saturn classic Panzer Dragoon (known as Crimson Dragon) briefly had a demo made available on the Japanese X-Box Live Marketplace before it was quickly taken down by Microsoft.
The game is not going to be published by SEGA but SEGA fans may want to keep an eye on Crimson Dragon due to its’ connection to Panzer Dragoon. The appearance (and disappearance) of the demo means that the game must be nearing completion.
Crimson Dragon is a Kinect-only X-Box 360 game and will presumably launch this year.
The recent port of NiGHTS into dreams… for XBLA and PSN has now arrived on PC via Steam! The game comes in a similar format to the XBLA/PSN versions by including enhanced HD graphics but also including the function to change the graphics and resolution to the original SEGA Saturn version. The expansion game Christmas NiGHTS is also included.
You can buy the game from the Steam service now for £5.99 or via this page: Download page on Steam
In a bizarre turn of events, certain YouTube users who have content featuring SEGA Saturn classic Shining Force III are being targeted for copyright infringement. Their videos and in some cases their channels are being removed and the people being targeted are usually those hosting translated content from part 2 and 3 which were never released in the West.
One user MarauderEx who had his channel taken down contacted SEGA and got the following response:
“Hello, we never give explicit permission to use our intellectual property. However, in cases like this we tend not to take action unless we or our products are slandered in the derivative works. Best Regards, SEGA Customer Support.”
As MarauderEx’s material didn’t contain slander (along with users TotalBiscuit and synbios16) some are questioning the authenticity of the accusation. The claim comes from an unnamed person with a “legit” email address and is named in some SEGA games in a “special thanks” section but not in Shining Force III.
YouTube ArgyleDX has uploaded some classic SEGA trailers that were featured heavily at E3 1996. The most interesting of the lot is cancelled Sonic game Sonic Xtreme which would’ve been released for the Saturn. Also featured is beta footage of Sonic 3D Blast which shows a different design to the loops and floor-gates:
Next up we have a SEGA Saturn showcase reel which features a load of gameplay footage from various Saturn games like NiGHTS, Bug Too, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On and Fighting Vipers:
Finally we have the Mega Drive showcase reel which features X-Women, Bugs Bunny: Double Trouble and Vectorman 2:
The USK release schedule page appears to have just leaked announcements for Sonic the Fighters, Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter 2 on X-Box Live Arcade.
All 3 games have received ratings on the site which could mean that HD remakes of these releases are planned for XBLA. There is currently no official word from SEGA but looking at their recent release habits with the likes of NiGHTS into dreams, Sonic Adventure 2 and Jet Set Radio all getting revived it could well become a reality.
The Treasure developed shoot-em-up Radiant Silvergun that was originally released on the SEGA Saturn will be released on the X-Box Live Arcade September 14th 2011. It will cost 1200 points and it is NOT being published by SEGA.
This will be the first time the game has made it to the West and is easily the most affordable way to play it next to importing a Japanese Saturn copy for well over £80 (yikes!).
