We’ve finally populated every remaining entry in the SEGA Music Index part of our Merchandise section! This does not mean we have catalogued every SEGA music release ever – just the releases we have in our personal collection. Head on over to the SEGA Music Index now to browse everything, but you can also access each new entry via the list below:
The sale appears to be North American only. Checks on the UK XBLA show the original prices are still live on this side of the pond.
ORIGINAL STORY
SEGA is having a sale on the Xbox Live Marketplace which affects 5 of their digital-only titles. Check below for the full list of reductions:
NiGHTS into Dreams… – was 800 MSP now 400 MSP
Sonic the Fighters – was 400 MSP now 160 MSP
Fighter Vipers – was 400 MSP now 160 MSP
Virtua Fighter 2 – was 400 MSP now 160 MSP
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown – was 1200 MSP now 400 MSP
While it’s not made apparent on the SEGA Blog, this appears to be a worldwide sale and not just North American only. More on this as we get it.
The SEGA Model 2 collection features downloadable versions of Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers, Sonic the Fighters and Cyber Troopers: Virtual On. The collection will be released for XBLA and PSN and is currently Japanese exclusive. The collection is due for release later this year.
SEGA of Japan are releasing Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Striker, Fighting vipers and Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On for the Japanese XBLA and PSN services. Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers will be bundled together as a $15 3 game pack on PSN all with online versus modes. This pack will come out during Autumn 2012 while the others are due “winter 2013” but we think this might be a typo and it’s actually 2012.
More interestingly is the fact that Sonic the Fighters is an expanded version that makes Metal Sonic and Eggman playable as well as the dumped character Honey the Cat. Now that was unexpected!
Unfortunately there is no word on a Western release at this time.
The above trailer uploaded to SEGA of Japan’s YouTube Channel contains a series of video game sounds that make reference to Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers, Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Striker and Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On. The video is titled 2×5 and is more than likely referencing the SEGA Model 2 arcade board that these games were developed for.
The teaser ends with the message; “See you tomorrow!” Is this the rumoured XBLA/PSN re-releases of Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers and Sonic the Fighters? Hopefully we’ll find out “tomorrow”!
The USK release schedule page appears to have just leaked announcements for Sonic the Fighters, Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter 2 on X-Box Live Arcade.
All 3 games have received ratings on the site which could mean that HD remakes of these releases are planned for XBLA. There is currently no official word from SEGA but looking at their recent release habits with the likes of NiGHTS into dreams, Sonic Adventure 2 and Jet Set Radio all getting revived it could well become a reality.
