A new CD release that ties in with the release of the Mega Drive Mini is due to arrive this December. Mega Drive Mini -Celebration Album- compiles Yuzo Koshiro’s new menu music that features on the Mega Drive Mini itself with a selection of new arrangements of music from a handful of games that feature on the console. Games like Gunstar Heroes, Columns, Golden Axe and Thunder Force III all feature. Check out the fully translated track list below:
Mega Drive Mini -Celebration Album- releases December 12th 2019 in Japan and costs 3000 yen. Pre-orders are not available at the time of writing, but I’m sure the release will hit Amazon Japan and CD Japan very soon.
Jon Burton of TT Games has continued to upload the various demo music from Jun Senoue’s early cassette soundtrack for Sonic 3D: Flickies’ Island. The latest 2 videos feature the demos for Green Grove Zone which was previously titled Green Alley Zone, and another song for an unused Knuckles bonus stage is actually a demo for the song that would end up being used for Pleasure Castle in Sonic Adventure. Check them both out using the embeds below:
Back in October 2017, Jon Burton of Traveller’s Tales fame revealed that he was in the possession of a cassette containing the demo versions of Jun Senoue’s Sonic 3D Blast soundtrack. Well fast-forward 2 years and Burton has started to upload these demos to his YouTube channel, GameHut. You can listen to 3 of the tracks from the cassette via the embed below:
This is a fascinating piece of history that showcases how Jun Senoue wrote his music in 1996. The demos are arranged very simplistically on synthesisers before being re-arranged for use on the Mega Drive’s Yamaha YM2612 sound chip. The full tracklisting for the demo cassette is listed below. Hopefully Burton continues to share more of the music from the cassette:
A1 Opening (Short Ver.)
A2 Opening (Long Ver.)
A3 Power Up
A4 Green Alley Zone Act.1
A5 Casino Night Zone Act.1
A6 Boss (Minor Key)
B1 Boss (Major Key)
B2 Special Stage
B3 Bonus Stage (Miles)
B4 Bonus Stage (Knuckles)
The Sonic Adventure Music Experience is coming to the UK thanks to the people who brought you the Summer of Sonic convention.
Taking place on the 8th of December 2019 at The Garage in London, the Sonic Adventure Music Experience is a live music show lead by Jun Senoue and the SAME band where they perform new arrangements of music from the Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 soundtracks.
The event is being organised by Svend Joscelyne and Adam Tuff who have previously helmed various Summer of Sonic events. To secure your place at the event, tickets can be ordered via the event’s Kickstarter page which is now live and available to view by clicking here. Various ticket bundles are available for groups up to 4 and the event needs to raise £13,500 to secure all the various costs that come with putting on a live show in central London.

Original Streets of Rage composers Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima will return to the franchise to work on the soundtrack for Streets of Rage 4.
This time around they’re brought some friends. Contributions to the soundtrack will also be done by Hideki Naganuma of Jet Set Radio fame, Yoko Shimomura of Street Fighter II fame and Keiji Yamagishi of Ninja Gaiden fame.
A fascinating little behind the scenes video has also gone live on Dotemu’s YouTube channel where you can watch the composers themselves discuss their music. Check it out below:
Streets of Rage 4 is currently being developed by Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games. No release dates or systems have been revealed at this time, but the game was demoed on a PC last month at Bitsummit.
We finally have official confirmation as to the complete contents of Crush 40’s new compilation, Driving Through Forever: The Ultimate Crush Forty Compilation 1998-2018. The artwork features a simple yet effective shot of the band playing live and is displayed through the album’s title. The album contains a 17 track CD and a 13 track DVD. The most notable inclusion is a new song called Call Me Crazy. What is still a bit of a mystery at this time is what the DVD is actually showcasing. One track is labelled ‘LIVE! Crush 40’s Driving Through Forever: The Ultimate Crush Forty Compilation 1998-2018 will be released on the 24th of July 2019 and can be pre-ordered now through CD Japan.
A listing for a new Crush 40 compilation called Driving Through Forever – The Ultimate Crush 40 Collection is available to pre-order on CD Japan and Amazon Japan with a release date of July 24th 2019 and an RRP of ¥2,918.
While there is currently no complete track list, it’s easy to assume that this will be another compilation similar to The Best of Crush 40 – Super Sonic Songs. Amazon Japan confirms that Green Light Ride, Open Your Heart, Live & Learn and Sonic Heroes will be included with other songs to be confirmed later.
The description does include mention of a DVD that comes with the compilation. Again, there are currently no details as to what this will include at the time of writing. We will update this story as we learn more.
That’s right; it’s another update to our Music section! This time we’ve got 6 additions to share, complete with brief information, artwork scans and track lists. See below for the full list of additions and direct links to each entry:
