3D After Burner II Coming to Japanese 3DS eShop Next Week

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

Japan are getting a second wave of 3DS SEGA classics! The first in the series will be After Burner II which launches December 18th, but obviously only for Japan at this time.

From what I can gather from the official website the new version adds:

– Gyro controls
– Stereoscopic 3D visuals
– A stage select
– A music player which can be used in game

The other interesting thing is that this port is based on the arcade version and not the Mega Drive version.

Sonic 2 Remastered Releasing Tomorrow; Hidden Palace Zone is Unlockable

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

Christian “The Taxman” Whitehead returns once again with a Retro Engine-powered port of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Android and iOS devices. The new version of the 16 bit classic launches tomorrow and will be a free update for those who already own the existing port of Sonic 2 for these devices.

Along with the usual enhancements of a widescreen display and more accurate controls, Whitehead has seen fit to add Hidden Palace Zone as an unlockable bonus stage. This is not the Hidden Palace Zone from Sonic & Knuckles either; this is the version that was discovered in Sonic 2 Beta. Whitehead has obviously not left the stage incomplete and has given it a lovely makeover which now includes gimmicks like the water jet you can see above.

The 3DS re-release of Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master has some additional features which have just been detailed.

Along with the obvious stereoscopic visuals, quick save and round select features have been added. You can also choose to play either the Western or Japanese versions of the game.

The big addition is the inclusion of assigning control to an individual button instead of sharing them accross the Mega Drive original’s 3 button format. You can now assign the commands for jump, close range attack, shuriken attack, defend and ninjutsu to specific buttons.
