SEGADriven is a SEGA news and information source that focuses on SEGA's console history, retro games and new software hitting the shelves. We want to share a love of great, quirky, clever and down-right fun games - something that SEGA have always specialised in. See below for the latest news, reviews and features added to the website.
Let’s not beat around the bush here; SEGA games have always had the best music. End of. There is no argument. SEGA composers and musicians have always got the absolute best out of their limitations (back in the pre-32 bit era) and have gone on to make fantastic compositions worthy of greater attention. Why game music is not regulalrly on sale in the West is beyond me because things like Video Games Live have proven there’s an audience.
Enough. This update is about SEGA music. Songs like Skies of Arcadia’s title theme show exactly why game music should not be frowned upon. This piece is beautiful.

Vanquish, the third-person shooter from Platinum Games is now available in demo-form from the X-Box Marketplace and Playstation Network. Unlike Platinum Games previous title Bayonetta, Vanquish’s lead platform is the PS3 which means both versions of the game are near identical (unlike Bayonetta which had considerably lower performance on PS3). Take a look at this rather tasty video Eurogamer.net’s Digital Foundry did showing each version’s performance and then get to downloading!
Vanquish is due for release later this year. Play.com has the UK release down for the 22nd of October. Fingers crossed!

NG:Dev Team have ported their Neo Geo shooter, Fast Striker to the Dreamcast and are planning a Winter 2010 release. The game is available to pre-order from their shop now in 3 versions; a regular version, a special edition with a bonus soundtrack CD and a bundle of both versions for those of you who want both for collectors’ purposes (or just have far too much disposable income!).
See below for the game’s trailer and make your decision as to whether you want another shmup for your Dreamcast. Personally, I can never have enough shmups!

However, if you are from the US then you should probably think about entering the Gunblade NY competition where you can win A GUNBLADE NY CABINET. Seriously. SEGA of America are giving away an arcade cabinet. This rocks in all types of ways.

Now here’s a strange little piece! This song is called Hey Hey Why? and it was developed specifically for the SEGA Ages version of Fantasy Zone on the SEGA Saturn. It’s essentially a studio version of first stage theme from Fantasy Zone but it uses female vocals in place of the main synth from the original track. It’s a fun, poppy and typically Japanese take on the original song but be warned, you will not be able to get it out of your head after you’ve played it once!

It appears that the X-Box Live Arcade version of Sonic Adventure will be making it’s way to the US on September 15th for the low, low price of 800 Microsoft points. I think the price alone has changed this re-release from curiosity to must-buy. If you have yet to experience Sonic’s first Dreamcast outing then there is no excuse now!
No news on the Playstation Network release or any UK release dates are currently available. We will be sure to post them as soon as we know!

Today I’ve got a little mad with the Merchandise section. I’ve photographed a load of bits from my own collection and begun the flesh out the SEGA Merchandise Catalogue a little bit.
We’ve got the Summer of Sonic 2009 art book in the Books section, new clothing including a rather lovely Mega Drive shirt and some Sonic Unleashed stuff, some original prints and pages in the Comics section, some new figurines, the Plushies section has been opened as well as a brand new Miscellaneous section featuring a whole host of crazy crap.
So have a little look and see what merchandise SEGA have had to offer over the years!

That’s right folks, SEGADriven.com is back and ready to rock!
The site is now hosted with The Sonic Stadium Network which means we’re now a part of a lovely group of sites run by people I can honestly call my friends.
Along with the move to the TSS Network, the entire website has been converted to WordPress to make updates easier ongoing. If you notice any broken links/images/errors etc please report to me as they shouldn’t be there! I’m hoping I’ve picked up on everything but you know how these things are… I’m only human!
So there you have it; we’re back and things are working better than ever. Stay tuned for a review of Gunblade NY & LA Machineguns Arcade Hits Pack (what a mouthful!) coming very, very soon!

Below is all the footage I managed to gather as I was strolling around the Summer of Sonic floor in my spare time. Keep an eye out for ‘Crush 40 Kid’ who is definately more metal than you.
