SEGA Tunes: Enduro Racer Gameplay Theme

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

Today’s SEGA Tunes feature is on the wonderful gameplay theme from SEGA’s Enduro Racer. We’re starting with the Master System version because quite simply it’s the better of the two:

For those of you that didn’t know, Enduro Racer started life as a parallax scrolling arcade racer similar to other SEGA racers like Hang-On. The difference here is that the game throws steep inclines and jumps at you to add some variety to the gameplay. The gameplay theme makes its’ first appearance here but the arcade version’s soundchip generally makes it sound a lot weaker than the Master System version:

Sadly we can’t seem to find any fan remixes of this gem, but if any of our readers would like to suggest some we will happily feature them on the next SEGA Tunes feature!

SEGA Tunes: Splash Hill Medley by Jun Senoue

Saturday, January 12th, 2013

While we love the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 soundtrack, we missed hearing Jun Senoue’s signature guitar work in action. Luckily, the CD version of the soundtrack includes a very special arrangement of all 3 Splash Hill themes with additional instrumentation such as Senoue-san’s famous guitar work. If you haven’t experienced this then make yourself familiar!

SEGA Tunes: MegaDriver Actually Release a SEGA Themed Song For Once!

Monday, January 7th, 2013

Brazilian metal beasts MegaDriver have released their own version of Splash Wave from the Outrun soundtrack. You can check it via this link: CLICK HERE

The band have been strangely focussed on music from games not featured on the Mega Drive for quite some time and have also begun work on original material.

You can also hear the Splash Wave cover in the below video which puts the song directly into Outrun 2 with great effect:

Big thanks to Titanscreed at Project Phoenix Productions and @freqrexy on Twitter for making us aware of this new MegaDriver track.

SEGA Tunes: Funky Dealer from Jet Set Radio Future

Sunday, January 6th, 2013

We’re huge fans of Hideki Naganuma’s sample-driven, hyperactive, pop stylings so we thought it was about time we featured one of the man’s greatest moments. Funky Dealer comes from the Jet Set Radio Future soundtrack and contains everything Naganuma-san is known for: huge beats, sampled vocals, flourishes of guitar work and a certain catchiness that only this man can achieve.

Ace deuce craps wants four:

If you’re interested in owning a physical copy of the Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future soundtrack, SEGA re-released it on CD last October. Click here to order a copy!

Valkyria Chronicles 2 Soundtrack Available on US/EU iTunes Stores

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

In a shock move from SEGA, the soundtrack to Valkyria Chronicles 2 is now available on the US and EU iTunes stores. The 47 song soundtrack is £15.99 for UK users. We are unable to confirm the price in US dollars and Euros at this time.

Click to here to be taken straight to the album via iTunes.

We need to see more game soundtracks on iTunes! With the increased prices on import CDs this is a great alternative for fans of video game music!

SEGA Tunes: Project DIVA Arcade Quartet Theme Remix

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Anyone remember the SEGA arcade game Quartet? Allow me to jog your memory:

Now here’s an interesting remix for you all! The main theme from Quartet was remixed and added as a playable song in Project DIVA Arcade. Check out the promotional video below:

Also interesting for Sonic fans is that if you skip the chorus (1:14) you might recognise the melody to It Doesn’t Matter from Sonic Adventure. Seriously! We’re not entirely sure if this is a coincidence or not but it’s certainly worth noting!
