Unreleased Super Star Wars Port for Mega Drive Uncovered

Friday, January 3rd, 2020

Once again those wonderful people at Hidden Palace have uncovered a truly fascinating piece of Mega Drive history and archived it for future generations. This time we have an unreleased port of Super Star Wars to the Mega Drive by SEGA Interactive, more famously known for Greendog. This prototype dates back to January 1993, and despite some mention in magazines from the time, this port has never been seen until now. Check it out in action below:

If you’d like to try this prototype yourself you can download it from the game’s entry at Hidden Palace. The ROM will work in an emulator or on actual hardware with use of a flash cart. A huge thanks to all involved for making this available to the public. Want more news on Star Wars? Check out sites like The Direct for the latest.

Thursday, December 26th, 2019

Another incredible find and release from Hidden Palace has been made available! This time we’ve been treated to the first and only ROM dump of an unreleased Akira game developed by Black Pearl Software. Originally developed for release in 1994, the game’s development was halted after a series of resignations in the team and a change in development priority with other Black Pearl titles.

You can watch the game in action via the embed below:

The ROM file for this Akira prototype is available to download from Hidden Palace and can be played in an emulator or on an actual Mega Drive through use of a flash cart.

Obscure Dreamcast Puzzler ‘The Lost Golem’ Receives Fan Translation

Monday, December 16th, 2019

The Japan-only puzzle game The Lost Golem is a bit of an obscure release, only seeing under 500 sales during its original launch. This has lead to it becoming quite the cult favourite among Dreamcast collectors. It’s not the most difficult thing to play without a knowledge of Japanese, but thanks to community efforts, the game has now received an English fan translation and its a welcome addition for anyone looking to understand the game a little better.

The English fan translation of The Lost Golem is available to download from Romhacking.net now. You will need a CDI file of the original game in order to apply the patch. This can then be run in emulation or on an actual Dreamcast if burned to disc and booted with Utopia.

The Lost Golem is a fairly simple title where you control a golem who is guiding a king throughout a castle. You must pick up and place walls in order to change his direction and guide him to the exit. You can see the game in action via this first look video by our friend pcwzrd13:

Original Sakura Wars Game Now Available in English Thanks to Fans

Monday, December 16th, 2019

While hugely popular in Japan, the Sakura Wars franchise has rarely seen light in the West with 2005’s Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love being the only entry to receive a Western port in 2010. The Sakura Wars franchise is often a cross between a tactical mech-based RPG and a dating simulation, making it one of SEGA’s more off-beat and experimental titles.

Thankfully a group of dedicated fans have now completed an English fan translation of the original Sakura Wars game for SEGA Saturn, which you can download by clicking here. The patch and instructions on how to apply it are included in the download. This fan translation can only be played through emulation or a modified SEGA Saturn. Congratulations to CJ_iwakura, NoahSteam, Crouching_Mouse and MatatabiMitsu for their efforts and making Sakura Wars available to Western audiences for the first time.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD Coming to Steam on December 10th

Thursday, December 5th, 2019

There’s not much longer to wait for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD’s Steam release – because it’s actually out next week!

The game’s Steam page now confirms a launch date of December 10th. And to sweeten the deal, there’ll be a 20% off deal on the game until December 17th, putting the price at £19.99 (down from £24.99). For those unaware, Banana Blitz is a remake of the first Nintendo Wii outing for the series, but with 100% less motion controls. Party games have also been slimmed down to a more curated selection, level design has been tweaked to suit the new controls better, and perhaps most notably there’s a new unlockable character in the form of Sonic the Hedgehog. The Steam version will also seemingly add features, such as a Photo Mode.

Bayonetta & Vanquish Ports Heading to Xbox One X in February 2020

Thursday, December 5th, 2019

After successful 4K 60fps remasters of Bayonetta and Vanquish hit PCs back in 2017, it appears those ports are now heading to consoles with an Xbox One X release confirmed for the 18th of February 2020.

While the games have only been listed on the Microsoft storefront at this time, this does not rule out a PS4 release. Both games are available to buy at diablo 2 items for sale and separately or bundled together as the Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle. Bayonetta and Vanquish were both developed by Platinum Games and released back in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Bayonetta was directed by Hideki Kamiya of Resident Evil 2 and Viewtiful Joe fame, while Vanquish was directed by Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil 4 and The Evil Within fame.

Persona 5 Royal Launches West on March 31st 2020 for PS4, Atlus USA Rebrand as Atlus West

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019

Persona 5 Royal, the updated version of Atlus’ hit RPG Persona 5, now has a release date for both America and Europe – it’ll launch on March 31st 2020, exclusively for Playstation 4. There’s also a new trailer to announce it.

Royal adds a slew of new content to the original game, such as an extra ‘semester’ of story content, new areas to visit, alternate endings, and new features including a ‘Thieves Den’ that you can customise to your own tastes. There’s also several brand-new characters, including the new Phantom Thief, Kasumi.

In addition, Atlus USA is technically no more. Instead the division is now known as the much more inclusive Atlus West, to reflect that Europe now gets Atlus games on time. After years of Atlus being the butt of jokes about forgetting Europe exists, it’s been quite the transformation this past year or two, and we’re happy to see it continue.

To recap: Persona 5 Royal launches on PS4 on March 31st 2020 in the West. There won’t be a PS3 version, unlike the original game. There’s also a selection of lucrative (and fairly expensive) limited editions, including a Day One edition with a Steelbook.
