SEGA Japan have revealed the Mega Drive 2 Mini which expands the focus of the original Mega Drive Mini with the inclusion of “Mega CD games, arcade ports, unreleased games and a mysterious new game” according to GSK. 11 games have been revealed so far. See below for the full list:

– Popful Mail (Mega-CD)
– Virtua Racing (Mega Drive)

– Thunder Force IV (Mega Drive)
– Magical Tarurūto-kun (Mega Drive)
– Fantasy Zone (New Mega Drive Port)
The final release is promising 50 games in total and is due to release in Japan on October 27th 2022. The mini console is bundled with a 6 button controller. Also revealed during the stream is an entirely cosmetic Mega-CD 2 for the Mega Drive 2 Mini to lock onto, as well as a miniature Sonic CD CD-ROM and a Virtua Racing cart to pop into the cartridge slot. The Mega Drive Tower Mini 2 even has an expander so you can use it with the original Mega Drive Mini and a spacer for the 32X mini included in the original Mega Drive Tower Mini. Both are entirely non functional.
There is currently no word of a Western release for the new mini console.
IGN are back with more Sonic Frontiers coverage. This time we have an extensive 7 minute gameplay video that showcases some of the open world action in Sonic Frontiers. You can see it for yourself via the embed below:
The footage is largely exploration-focused, showcasing a move-set that is remarkably similar to previous 3D Sonic entries like Sonic Forces, Sonic Generations and Sonic Colours. New abilities come in the form of a laser loop ability that Sonic uses to surround certain objects like torches which disables them. We also see Sonic running up specific wall-faces. There’s also some light puzzle solving, which unlocks doors and reveals hidden items.
Sonic Frontiers will launch in Holiday 2022 for Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game is being developed in house by Sonic Team.
Some SEGA-adjacent news for you! Famed director Yu Suzuki of SEGA classics like After Burner, Hang-On, Space Harrier, Out Run and Shenmue is back with a new downloadable game called Air Twister. Eagle-eyed viewers will recognise the action of Air Twister as being somewhat reminiscent of Space Harrier. You can check out the bonkers announcement trailer via the embed below. Be prepared for giant swans and a sound-a-like version of Killer Queen:
Air Twister launches exclusively on Apple Arcade on June 24th 2022. The game is not being published by SEGA, but by Suzuki’s own YsNet studio. You will need an Apple device and a subscription to Apple Arcade to play the game once it launches.

Sonic Frontiers appears to introduce a new laser-grapple mechanic that requires you to run rings around your enemies and launch them into the air. Combat seems to be similar to the homing attack-and-melee attacking style of Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic 06. There is also a new glowing ring item that Sonic can run in hamster wheel-style that appears to initiate a scan of the surrounding area. Boosting and grinding also make a reappearance.
Sonic Frontiers will be the first open world Sonic title and is being developed in house by SEGA’s own Sonic Team. The game will launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC in “Holiday 2022”.
As the release of Sonic Frontiers approaches, fans can’t wait to get their hands on the game and explore the open world with the iconic blue hedgehog. Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown continues it’s excellent run of crossover costumes with a selection of 19 costumes based on Tekken 7 characters, alongside 20 additional soundtrack songs, 7 different user interfaces and 2 new titles. You can see the costumes in action via the embed below:
The Tekken 7 costumes will be available to purchase as DLC for Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown on June 1st 2022. VF5 Ultimate Showdown is currently still PS4 exclusive.
Sonic R’s 1998 PC port is finally playable on modern versions of Windows thanks to MainMemory’s wonderful Sonic R Mod Manager software. This piece of software also supports mods and in our latest video we also take a look at Rlan’s Sonic R Mania mod. Click the embed below to see the mod in action:
Online multiplayer FPS Rainbow Six Siege has revealed that 2 Yakuza skins are now available to purchase in game. You can now dress Hibana as Kaoru Sayama and Echo as Kazama Kiryu. Check out how the skins look in game via the embed below:
The above trailer also hints at a Goro Majima skin that is promised to be coming soon. The Kaoru Sayama and Kazama Kiryu are available now for Rainbow Six Siege on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
The SEGA Saturn is not particularly well known for its 3D platform games, so we’ve decided to see what platformers were available for the system. We start our journey with a look at the Saturn port of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos by Argonaut Software. The wonderful people at SEGA Dreamcast Info have managed to acquire and archive an early build of Shenmue II from April 11th 2001 that features a multitude of differences when compared to the final game. The most interesting discovery is that art assets of the game’s director Yu Suzuki are included in this build, and SEGA Dreamcast Info have also released a version of the prototype that changes Ryo’s character model so that you can play as Yu Suzuki instead.
