SEGA Back-Pedals on YouTube Video Removals Decision

Friday, March 22nd, 2013

After a controversial decision by SEGA to remove certain Shining Force-related videos from YouTube, SEGA have back-pedalled on their decision.

Brand manager Aaron “RubyEclipse” Webber has released the following statement:

“Thank you to all of our fans for waiting while we worked hard to get this issue solved. While SEGA may need to remove videos in rare cases, we’re happy to confirm that there are no further plans to remove Shining Force videos uploaded to Youtube by users living in North American and European territories. Additionally, if you live in these territories and your video was removed, please get in touch with us at communityteam@sega.com so that we can look into it for you.”

Fan Scene: Sonic XG Back in Development

Thursday, January 3rd, 2013

The infamous Sonic fan game Sonic XG is back in development as a one-man project by Joseph Waters.

Waters was a part of the original development team that also included Euan Gallacher and Christian Whitehead and has their support to complete the game alone. Both Gallacher and Whitehead have supplied Waters with all their Sonic XG material to make Waters’ job a little easier.

The game is being developed using Waters own custom Sonic & Knuckles clone engine. You can see 2 previews of the game in its’ current incarnation below:

There is currently no playable version available at this time as we’re assuming that Waters intends to release the game when it is complete rather than put a demo out. A playable demo from 2007 is still available to download from Sonic Retro.

YouTube Users with Shining Force III Content Being Targeted for Copyright Infringement

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

In a bizarre turn of events, certain YouTube users who have content featuring SEGA Saturn classic Shining Force III are being targeted for copyright infringement. Their videos and in some cases their channels are being removed and the people being targeted are usually those hosting translated content from part 2 and 3 which were never released in the West.

One user MarauderEx who had his channel taken down contacted SEGA and got the following response:

“Hello, we never give explicit permission to use our intellectual property. However, in cases like this we tend not to take action unless we or our products are slandered in the derivative works. Best Regards, SEGA Customer Support.”

As MarauderEx’s material didn’t contain slander (along with users TotalBiscuit and synbios16) some are questioning the authenticity of the accusation. The claim comes from an unnamed person with a “legit” email address and is named in some SEGA games in a “special thanks” section but not in Shining Force III.

More on this as we get it.

A Quick Update Regarding the Status of the Website

Friday, September 7th, 2012

Hello everyone, Sonic Yoda here. A friend of mine suggested I keep you all in the know as to why the site has been quiet for such a long period of time and I thought that was quite a good idea!

So on the 28th of July I moved home and even though I’ve been in the new place for over a month me and my flat-mate are still sorting the last few things out. The main one is obviously the internet.

With any luck we should be live soon but there’s some strange fault with my line (apparently) so even though I should’ve gone live on Tuesday (4/9/12) I’m still having endless calls with my provider to get things sorted.

We have some cool content for you when we’re back though so don’t think we’ve been slacking. I have a feature video that includes all my favourite games from this year’s SAGE to still upload and then we’ll be doing another collaborative video with The Community Spotlight.

Once again, apologies for the long period of dead-time but hopefully we should be live and kicking again soon!
