Fast becoming a tradition, the Sonic the Hedgehog team at SEGA are once again making an appearance at SXSW Gaming to host a Sonic the Hedgehog panel.
The panel hasn’t been confirmed for a specific date/time at the time of writing, but it will take place at some point during the 15th to the 17th of March 2019. The panel will feature Aaron Webber, Jasmin Hernandez, Jun Senoue and Takashi Iizuka and it promises to discuss, “the latest for the blue blur and his next steps for 2019 and beyond.”
Previous SXSW Sonic panels have revealed the existence of Team Sonic Racing, Sonic Mania Plus and Sonic Mania Adventures, so expect some pretty high profile reveals during this year’s panel.

Team Sonic Racing is due to be released on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on May 21st 2019. The game is being developed by Sumo Digital.
Another Sonic the Hedgehog movie poster has apparently leaked and it gives us a full look at Sonic’s face, unobscured by shadow.
However, this image leak is a little different in that the image comes from 2017, after the movie was greenlit and with a different cast. Case in point: Chris Pratt is featured on this poster instead of James Marsden.
There are some other differences to Sonic’s design as well. His shoes showcase a different design to the recent posters and his legs appear shorter.
It might be best to take this image with a pinch of salt as its difficult to trace a solid source. This could be an elaborate hoax. We will update this story as we clarify the details.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is due to release on the 26th of December 2019 in the UK. The film will be directed by Jeff Fowler, Ben Schwartz will voice Sonic the Hedgehog and Jim Carrey will play Dr. Robotnik.
Another new poster for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been leaked online and it showcases a view of San Francisco from on top of the Golden Gate Bridge. Sonic’s eerily athletic legs are also showcased, along with his new footwear and lack of socks. A blue streak showing Sonic’s path to his eventual destination helps portray his speed.
It’s pretty safe to say that Sonic’s design in these two posters hasn’t exactly been met with open arms by the online community. The deviation from Sonic’s classic design hasn’t been popular with fans or even SEGA for that matter, who have been quoted as saying they weren’t happy with the design of Sonic’s eyes (which we have yet to see).
But it’s still early days for this movie. At the time of writing we haven’t seen a single teaser or trailer for the film, so it’s difficult to judge it on two images. It’ll certainly be interesting to see what everything looks like in motion.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is due to release on the 26th of December 2019 in the UK. The film will be directed by Jeff Fowler and also star Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik.
2019 is shaping up to be the year that our beloved video game heroes are making the jump to the big screen and now it’s Sonic’s turn. IGN have showcased the first poster for the film which shows off a lot of Sonic’s new design.
Sonic is a lot furrier than he has appeared before (very much in keeping with how the Pokemon look in Detective Pikachu), and he’s sporting a more traditional pair of red running shoes. He also appears to have a more athletic look with blue arms. He might not even be wearing gloves, but it might simply be a case that the lack of light in this image obscures a smaller pair of gloves than we’re used to seeing. While Sonic’s face is obscured in this image, IGN’s interview with Neal Moritz seems to suggest Sonic’s eyes will be separate instead of the more traditional ‘one eye with two pupils’.
The poster also features a tagline which reads, “A Whole New Speed of Hero”.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is due to release on the 8th of November 2019 in the US. The UK gets the film the following month on the 26th of December 2019. Ben Schwartz will voice Sonic the Hedgehog who befriends James Marsden’s Tom Wachowski character. Jim Carrey will also step into the role of Dr. Robotnik (not Eggman). The film will be directed by Jeff Fowler.
