Takara Tomy have revealed the action figure to end all action figures in the form of the Transformer Megatron who can now transform into a Mega Drive!
The figure was revealed at the recent Winter Wonder Festival in Japan but without paintwork. Presumably the figure is due for a Japanese release but no word has been given as to when this will happen at this time. Fingers crossed the figure makes it to the West as well!
MegaDriver have uploaded their entire live set from MagFest 12. The show includes a huge setlist of various video game themes rearranged in the band’s signature heavy metal style. SEGA highlights include music from Revenge of the Shinobi, Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe and Out Run. Check it out below:
MegaDriver’s appearance at MagFest 12 was their first show outside of Brazil ever. An mp3 “bootleg” version of the show will appear on MegaDriver’s website for free download soon.
Christian “The Taxman” Whitehead returns once again with a Retro Engine-powered port of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Android and iOS devices. The new version of the 16 bit classic launches tomorrow and will be a free update for those who already own the existing port of Sonic 2 for these devices.
Along with the usual enhancements of a widescreen display and more accurate controls, Whitehead has seen fit to add Hidden Palace Zone as an unlockable bonus stage. This is not the Hidden Palace Zone from Sonic & Knuckles either; this is the version that was discovered in Sonic 2 Beta. Whitehead has obviously not left the stage incomplete and has given it a lovely makeover which now includes gimmicks like the water jet you can see above.

Read-Only Memory (the team behind the Sensible Software 1986–1999 book) have taken to Kickstarter to seek funding for their next book entitled SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis: Collected Works. The hardback, litho printed book features 20 interviews with key SEGA development staff as well as features on many classic games like Streets of Rage, Sonic the Hedgehog and Gunstar Heroes.
A copy of the book will cost you £30 with additional postage costs for those outside the UK. The final product is expected to launch in June 2014. The project as already raised a whopping £17,899 of its £30,000 goal with 27 days left to go.
More details have emerged in regards to Michael Jackson’s involvement in the Sonic 3 soundtrack and it’s coming from an unlikely source. Brad Buxer who used to play keyboards in The Jetzons was working with Jackson on the soundtrack to the game but in a previous interview he wasn’t aware of what songs made it into the final release.
A staff member over at Sonic Retro has discovered an amazing similarity with a Jetzons song called ‘Hard Times’. Check out the song below and you might be surprised as to how similar it is to a song that features on the Sonic 3 soundtrack:
Yep, that melody is unmistakably Ice Cap! What an amazing find!
