Now here’s some SEGA-related news I didn’t expect to see! The famous Hornet vehicle from Daytona USA and a special Daytona USA remix will be coming to Ridge Racer of Playstation Vita via DLC.
The remix is worth a special mention as the ‘RIDGE RACER USA MIX’ is the result of a collaboration between Namco composer Hiroshi Okubo and SEGA’s Takenobu Mitsuyoshi.
There is currently no word on whether or not this DLC will be making it to the West but the Japanese are getting this on June 6th; ¥150 for the remix and ¥250 for the Hornet.
The HD port of Jet Set Radio originally set for release this summer on XBLA, PSN and Steam is now coming to Playstation Vita.
The Vita version will include touchscreen controls and camera integration that is exclusive to this port. We assume this will be used for the tagging in the game and creating your own tags but this hasn’t been confirmed at this time.
The game will also be playable at this year’s E3 event at the Los Angeles Convention Center from July 5th to the 7th. There is currently no word in regards to when this version of Jet Set Radio will release or if it will come out on the same day as the XBLA/PSN/Steam releases.
Anarchy Reigns; the new multiplayer brawler from Platinum Games was due for release in Europe on the 6th of July and in the US on the 3rd of July. However, Platinum Games have revealed that the Western release has changed to ‘to be confirmed’.
A note on the Platinum Games website says, “We break the bad news about Anarchy Reigns US/EU release date – Sega has decided to change the date to TBC. While our work on the game is finished, localised, and ready to go, as publisher, Sega gets to make the final decision as to when it is released. The Japanese release date, however, remains unchanged for 5th July 2012.”
Fingers crossed that SEGA release a new Western release date soon and that the game’s Western release has not been shelved. Platinum Games have delivered some stunning entertainment this generation and it would be a massive shame if Anarchy Reigns becomes Japan exclusive.
A further wave of 200 tickets to Summer of Sonic will become available tonight at 6pm BST. They’re “group” ticket offer has now been limited to 2 people per ticket.
Also confirmed to be appearing at this year’s event are Takashi Iizuka; the current director at Sonic Team and the wonderful Sonic the Comic duo of Nigel Kitching and Nigel Dobbyn (who had previously confirmed himself anyway!).
Also announced is that a third wave of tickets will become available at a yet-to-be-announced date. More info on this as we receive it.
Summer of Sonic 2012 takes place on the 7th of July at the Hove Centre in Brighton.
And now we have footage! Check out the gameplay trailer for the newly announced Double Fine game from Ron Gilbert of Monkey Island fame ‘The Cave’ which SEGA are publishing!
Anybody else getting a Blackthorne vibe? Interesting stuff!

The Double Fine developed game that SEGA are publishing is called The Cave. The title is being directed by Ron Gilbert and now there’s some screenshots of it that illustrate the game’s art-style.
Details on the game have also emerged. The title will be released on PC, PSN and XBLA in early 2013. The game is an adventure game where you assemble a team of explorers who must explore and underground amusement park for ‘inter-continental ballistic missiles’. Rappelling and spelunking in the caverns is also featured.
Yakuza 5 will be releasing in Japan this December exclusively for Playstation 3. The engine running the game is completely new and built from the ground up specifically for this title.
In a surprise turn of events, classic SEGA platformer Alex Kidd in Miracle World will see a re-release on X-Box Live Arcade and Playstation Network today.
Details regarding pricing as scarce at the moment but once we get them we will update this story.
UPDATE
US PSN users can expect to pay $4.99 for Alex Kidd. Thanks Game Guru. Still no word on UK pricing.
The SEGA Community Roundtable is back from a longer absence than usual (my bad)! This time we dicuss the best SEGA Platformer that isn’t a Sonic game. The usual rules apply, any SEGA published game qualifies as well as any game that was released on a SEGA console; Mega Drive, Dreamcast etc.
A huge thanks to our contributors who make this feature so special! There’s some brilliant writing in this feature which you should all take some time to read over; probably some of the best work I’ve seen on the roundtable!
