The Nintendo Germany press release which previously stated that all 3 SEGA/Nintendo partnered Sonic games would release this year has been ammended to say that only Sonic: Lost World will receive a definite 2013 release. Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and the unannounced third Sonic title have had their release status changed to “undecided”.
There has also been confirmation from an IGN staff member that the unannounced Sonic title will arrive in 2014 and not 2013. The same staff member also confirmed the existence of a 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games to compliment the Wii-U release.
The 3 Sonic titles exclusive to the Nintendo and SEGA worldwide partnership will be released this year. This information comes from a press release from Nintendo Germany which catagorically states:
Today, they (Sega) revealed further details of the second of three titles, which the two companies will release exclusively on Wii U and 3DS. All three games will be released this year.
So good news for Wii-U and 3DS owners! It’s going to be a very Sonicy year!
The SEGA Blog has revealed some plot details and a couple of Wii-U screenshots for Sonic: Lost World:
“Dr. Eggman has harnessed the power of six menacing creatures collectively known as the Deadly Six, but when the Deadly Six rise up against their master, Sonic has to unite with his arch nemesis in order to take on the new enemies head-on. Using his dynamic new parkour moves and improved Color Powers, Sonic must run, jump and race through a variety of ever-changing terrains in order to defeat the Deadly Six.”
The first trailer for Sonic: Lost World on Wii-U has been revealed and it looks like a beautiful mix of Sonic Xtreme in Sonic Colours! Check it out below:
Also revealed is the first screenshot of the 3DS version which you can see in the image above. It looks like another side-scroller in a similar style to Generations, but there’s plenty of room for this to still surprise us just like the Wii-U version.
The above image has just appeared on the official SEGA page and features silhouettes of a collection of new characters who will appear in Sonic: Lost World for Wii-U and 3DS.
The image comes with the message, “Six will rise from the Lost World. Are they friends or foes? Find out on May 29th.”
SEGA president John Cheng has revealed that Sonic: Lost World will feature all new gameplay and enemies, as well as some new friends to accompany Sonic. Cheng has said:
“With ‘Sonic Lost World,’ we’re going to introduce new gameplay and enemies, which is always fun. In terms of Sonic and his friends, he’ll have his same friends there, and I think there’ll be some new ones as well. It’s not a reiteration. It’s going to be all new.”
Cheng has also commented on the deal between Nintendo and SEGA which means the next 3 Sonic games are Nintendo exclusive:
“It should be a win-win situation. Don’t count Nintendo out.”
A new entry in the Mario & Sonic Olympic game series has been announced. The new title is based around the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Gameplay footage can be seen below:
Also announced at today’s Nintendo Direct is Yakuza 1&2 HD for Wii-U. It appears the game will still be a Japan exclusive title though. The game releases in Japan on 8/8/2013.
