A team of dedicated Sonic fans have launched a new initiative to rescan all of Sonic the Comic which was originally published in the UK from 1993 to 2002. Sonic the Comic Rescan Project aims to preserve the comic in the best quality possible and make it more widely available outside of the UK.
70 issues of the comic have already been scanned and each are available in 3 formats: a 200 DPI scan for mobiles, a 300 DPI scan for tablets, and a larger 600 DPI raw scan that captures the comics at their highest digital resolution ever. The scans are completely new and do not rely on the Sonic the Comic Book Collection scans that were originally done in 2001. The scans are also direct copies of the original comics, complete with adverts. No generative AI was used to upscale the comics.
Sonic the Comic Rescan Project can be accessed by clicking this link. Each scan is also hosted on the Internet Archive which should hopefully help preserve the project if the website ever goes offline. If you would like to help the project by assisting in scanning your own comics then you can join the STC Recan Project’s Discord server and find out more.
