It’s snowing and London and the Internet is throwing a wobbler! However, we think snow is pretty awesome so we thought we’d celebrate with a bumper edition of SEGA Tunes featuring loads of themes from different snow stages in the Sonic series! Click the links below to enjoy some wintery fun!
Our rather lovely affiliate Project Phoenix Productions (previously The Community Spotlight) have expanded their content to include Let’s Play videos.
Titanscreed has been uploading World of Warcraft challenge videos and has now returned to SEGA content with a new Let’s Play of the original Shining Force. Check it out:
YouTube ArgyleDX has uploaded some classic SEGA trailers that were featured heavily at E3 1996. The most interesting of the lot is cancelled Sonic game Sonic Xtreme which would’ve been released for the Saturn. Also featured is beta footage of Sonic 3D Blast which shows a different design to the loops and floor-gates:
Next up we have a SEGA Saturn showcase reel which features a load of gameplay footage from various Saturn games like NiGHTS, Bug Too, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On and Fighting Vipers:
Finally we have the Mega Drive showcase reel which features X-Women, Bugs Bunny: Double Trouble and Vectorman 2:
So the new James Bond film ‘Skyfall’ is out today. We’re big fans of Daniel Craig’s James Bond so we decided to celebrate in the most SEGA way possible, by playing James Pond II: Codename Robocod! See what we did there?
ToeJam & Earl and its’ sequel ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron are being re-released on XBLA and PSN this November.
Both games will be packaged together for 800 MSP for $4.99 on PSN. We’re currently looking for the UK prices and release dates but the North American releases will happen on November 6th on PSN and November 7th on XBLA.
Both titles come with achievements and trophy support as well as online co-op.
According to information received by Siliconera, the 2 ToeJam & Earl games ‘ToeJam & Earl’ and ‘ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron’ are set to be re-released via SEGA’s Vintage Collection; a series of upscaled ports of classic SEGA games made available on Playstation Network and X-Box Live Arcade.
There is currently no date set and no word whether the games will be making their way to X-Box Live Arcade, but according to Siliconera they will definitely be coming to Playstation Network.
Pier Solar is a rather fantastic indie RPG that was released for the Mega Drive last year. As a companion piece to the game, Watermelon Games have released a 4 disc soundtrack boxset. We received our copy this morning so we thought we’d give you some insight as to what you get for your money:

The SEGA Community Roundtable is back from a longer absence than usual (my bad)! This time we dicuss the best SEGA Platformer that isn’t a Sonic game. The usual rules apply, any SEGA published game qualifies as well as any game that was released on a SEGA console; Mega Drive, Dreamcast etc.
A huge thanks to our contributors who make this feature so special! There’s some brilliant writing in this feature which you should all take some time to read over; probably some of the best work I’ve seen on the roundtable!
Sonic 2 HD, the promising HD fan remake of Sonic 2 has been officially cancelled as per a message left by Vincent (the project leader) on the project’s official Facebook. Reasons for this are mainly pinned on ex-lead developer LOst who wouldn’t provide the rest of the team with a DRM free version of the game and is solely responsible for the inclusion of the DirectInput bug which made users believe they’d downloaded a keylogger. He is also the only person holding what would be the source code for the game so production cannot continue without his involvement.
DRAMA.
Never-the-less, it’s sad to see the project go as the alpha demo was an impressive piece of work by what is essentially a bunch of bedroom coders. 2 members of the team (scanline99 and Cerulean Nights) have moved on to other independent work in hopes of furthering their game-developing careers and we wish them all the best for the future.
Remember Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse for the Mega Drive? Remember how amazing it was? Well who would’ve guessed that it would get a sequel 22 years later, but that’s exactly what is happening!
The upcoming release of Epic Mickey 2 on 3DS will not follow the same path as its’ console brethren; the developers have seen fit to make it an entirely different game featuring the plucky mouse that follows directly after the events of Castle of Illusion.
Obviously SEGA won’t be publishing Epic Mickey 2 as Disney now publishes its’ own Mickey games, but this should be of interest to anyone who has fond memories of the original Mega Drive game.
