The previously leaked Sonic Boom character seen on a poster has been made official by SEGA. The character is called Sticks and she’s a jungle badger who “will play an integral role across all Sonic Boom platforms.”
The announcement on the official SEGA blog has this to say:
“Sticks is wilder than the other members of Sonic’s team with unparalleled animal instincts and extremely sharp survival skills. She’s a fearsome combatant and a tenacious hunter who’s armed with handmade weapons at all times, most notably a handmade boomerang that she keeps in tow.”
You can see footage of Sticks’ voice actor and get further insight into her personality in the below video:
There’s not much else to say really. She looks a bit like Marine from Sonic Rush. She has a silly name. She will appear in the TV show and the games. It’s another new sidekick for Sonic.
The previously arcade exclusive and SEGA-published fighter Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN is coming to North America. The localisation and publishing will be handled by Aksys and not SEGA. The game will be getting released for both PS3 and PS4 systems.
Currently there is no word on what will happen with the game in Europe. Aksys has only committed to an English port for the North American market but it’s certainly a step closer to getting the game more exposure in the Western world.
The first episode of SEGA Central is now live and it’s brought to you from the floor of this year’s Rezzed. The episode gives you a look at Alien Isolation, Total War: Rome II for iOS and the SEGA sponsored Leftfield Collection booth at Rezzed. Check it out below:
SEGA have just revealed a new official web-series called SEGA Central which aims to give you insider news, behind-the-scenes previews, interviews and footage of SEGA’s upcoming releases. In addition SEGA have promised retrospectives that deal with classic SEGA games like Sonic Adventure 2 and Jet Set Radio.
The series is going to be exclusive to the SEGA Europe YouTube Channel so if you’re a YouTube user you can subscribe for future episodes.
SEGA have announced a new Super Monkey Ball game called Super Monkey Ball Bounce. As with a lot of SEGA’s recent output, the game is a mobile title for iOS and Android devices and looks incredibly similar to the Peggle games. Check out the trailer below:
Super Monkey Ball Bounce launches this Summer on iOS and Android devices. It will be a free-to-play title.
Unreleased versions of Lemmings 2: The Tribes have been released by SMS Power. The Master System and Game Gear versions of the game were completed and even sent to SEGA Power Magazine for review in 1994 but were cancelled due to the dwindling sales of SEGA’s 8 bit consoles and the high cost of cartridge production at the time.
You can get the ROM dumps for both versions of the game by registering at SMS Power. You will need an emulator to play the ROMs. Click the below links to be taken to the entries on SEGA Power:
The first screenshots and art of PS3 RPG Shining Resonance have appeared. The above gallery showcases some of the games weapons, dragons and multi-character battles.
The main character is a dragon called Irvan and the other party members can use musical instruments to aid him in battle. Don’t ask us how that works.
Shining Resonance will release as a Japan exclusive PS3 game this Winter.
Hypertension: Harmony of Darkness has been a long time coming, but the first person shooter from TDGMods is due to release later this year on Dreamcast through Goat Store.
Hypertension is unique among indie Dreamcast releases in that it uses 3D graphics. The game pays homage to classic FPSs like Doom and Quake and bizarrely features the first video game appearance of David Firth’s character Salad Fingers. Check out the latest game trailer below:
A new game in the Shining series has been revealed in Weekly Famitsu. The new title is an action RPG from Media.Vision; the creators of Wild ARMs. The new game features a dragon as the game’s protagonist and the game will be themed around “dragons and musical instruments”.
Random encounters appear to be out in favour of a seamless transition between the game’s overworld and battles. A party of up to 4 characters can be taken into battle.
As with most games in the Shining franchise, a Western release has not been announced and will probably not happen.
Audio Sprite is currently in the process of creating a video game/kids TV remix album with the proceeds going towards CLIC Sargent, a charity for children’s cancer.
In a rather moving gesture which was inspired by the loss of a friend’s 11 year old brother, Audio Sprite has remixed a selection of SEGA classics which includes a Yu Suzuki medley and remixes of songs from Sonic CD and Shenmue. You can check out the work-in-progress album below:
