Yuzo Koshiro Working on New Mega Drive Shoot-Em-Up

Wednesday, November 30th, 2022

Yuzo Koshiro has revealed that he is working on a new Mega Drive game with an unnamed designer who he previously collaborated with on Beyond Oasis/The Story of Thor.

While development is seemingly early, Koshiro has shared 2 screenshots of the game which appears to be a horizontally-scrolling shoot-em-up.

There is currently no word on when the game will release or whether it will get a physical release. Koshiro has previously worked on physical Mega Drive games that have been published by Columbus Circle, like 16 Bit Rhythm Land which released back in early 2019.

Koshiro has mentioned that the primary release will be for Mega Drive but that other platforms could follow.

Sonic Spin-Off Game ‘SEGAPede’ Prototype ROM Dumped

Friday, November 25th, 2022

Craig Stitt’s SEGAPede game has been discussed previously as some footage of it had been released back in August 2020 where it was known as Astropede. The game was pitched as a spin-off to the Sonic series where you play as a badnik who befriends Sonic. Using existing Hidden Palace tile-sets from his work on Sonic 2, Stitt developed a prototype to pitch to SEGA but the game was never picked up.

Now thanks to the amazing work of Hidden Palace, this prototype has been dumped and archived so we can actually experience the SEGAPede prototype in all its glory. You can check out direct capture of the game via the embed below:

You can download the SEGAPede prototype from the game’s entry on the Hidden Palace wiki. The ROM will run under emulation or on real hardware. Thanks again to the Hidden Palace team for their incredibly digital archive work and making sure this piece of SEGA history is now available to all.

Brad Buxer Confirms He Composed Majority of Sonic 3 Soundtrack With Minimal Input from Michael Jackson

Wednesday, June 8th, 2022

In an interview composed with Brad Buxer back in May, Brad Buxer confirms that the majority of the music composed for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was actually done by him and not Michael Jackson.

Buxer confirms that Michael Jackson had signed on to compose music for the soundtrack, but the actual writing duties fell to Buxer as he was Jackson’s main songwriting collaborator at the time. Buxer confirms he wrote 41 audio cues for Sonic 3 and Jackson only had input on one of them. He does not specify which song Jackson had input on and he does not specify which of the 41 audio cues ended up in the final game. We know for a fact that Ice Cap Zone was written by Brad Buxer because the melodies line-up with Buxer’s own song Hard Times that he recorded with the band The Jetzons.

Buxer also confirms that writing for the song Stranger in Moscow also came from the same sessions that produced the 41 audio cues for Sonic 3. Stranger in Moscow is often compared to the Sonic 3 credits theme as the songs share a similar chord progression. As this song was written separately from the Sonic 3 audio cues, it is more likely a coincidence that the songs sound similar.

5 other composers are credited for Sonic 3’s music: Bobby Brooks, Darryl Ross, Geoff Grace, Doug Grigsby III and C. Cirocco Jones. This means it is highly unlikely that all of Buxer’s 41 audio cues were used in the final game. You can watch an isolated segment of Brad Buxer’s May 2022 interview with Abbey Road Institute Paris below:
