The game launches on March 14th and the first 2 missions will be a free download. Also added is the option to purchase the remaining 6 levels in packs 2 for $2.99 or you can grab the lot at the special bundle priced of $4.99. There are no UK price listings at this time.
It also appears that High Voltage Software will be self-publishing the game this time and SEGA have no involvement in this HD re-release.
The recent port of NiGHTS into dreams… for XBLA and PSN has now arrived on PC via Steam! The game comes in a similar format to the XBLA/PSN versions by including enhanced HD graphics but also including the function to change the graphics and resolution to the original SEGA Saturn version. The expansion game Christmas NiGHTS is also included.
You can buy the game from the Steam service now for £5.99 or via this page: Download page on Steam
A new version of the leaked Streets of Rage reimagining footage has been uploaded which now includes sound. The prototype footage features a playable game and is not pre-rendered.
Ruffian Games business and management chief Gary Liddon (who also uploaded this new video) has also revealed more about the game:
“It was something we built very rapidly and represents pre-pre-pre-pre (lots of pres) pre-Alpha quality. Even so it has a certain charm 🙂 What’s the story behind it all? Like a lot of developers we work on a lot of different prototypes, they’re just not usually shown in public. In this case an older version of the same video was leaked last week which came as a bit of a surprise if I’m honest. As it had no sound I thought there wouldn’t be any harm sharing a version with audio. Beyond that there’s not a lot more I can say unfortunately :)”
Sean Noonan has also chimed in to answer a question about why the game was cancelled. His response: “I don’t really have a solid answer to that :(”
Check out this stunning leaked footage of a proposed Streets of Rage “reimagining” that would have been developed by Ruffian Games. Am I gutted this got cancelled:
Charming 2010 Mega Drive RPG Pier Solar is getting a HD upgrade and is set for release on Dreamcast (alright, we know it isn’t a HD console), XBLA, PC, Mac and Linux.
The port is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign. When the campaign reaches $139,000 the project will steam ahead for a December 2013 release. The campaign has already reached $43,829 at the time of writing.

SEGA of Japan are releasing Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Striker, Fighting vipers and Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On for the Japanese XBLA and PSN services. Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers will be bundled together as a $15 3 game pack on PSN all with online versus modes. This pack will come out during Autumn 2012 while the others are due “winter 2013” but we think this might be a typo and it’s actually 2012.
More interestingly is the fact that Sonic the Fighters is an expanded version that makes Metal Sonic and Eggman playable as well as the dumped character Honey the Cat. Now that was unexpected!
Unfortunately there is no word on a Western release at this time.
The above trailer uploaded to SEGA of Japan’s YouTube Channel contains a series of video game sounds that make reference to Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers, Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Striker and Cyber Troopers: Virtual-On. The video is titled 2×5 and is more than likely referencing the SEGA Model 2 arcade board that these games were developed for.
The teaser ends with the message; “See you tomorrow!” Is this the rumoured XBLA/PSN re-releases of Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers and Sonic the Fighters? Hopefully we’ll find out “tomorrow”!
The USK release schedule page appears to have just leaked announcements for Sonic the Fighters, Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter 2 on X-Box Live Arcade.
All 3 games have received ratings on the site which could mean that HD remakes of these releases are planned for XBLA. There is currently no official word from SEGA but looking at their recent release habits with the likes of NiGHTS into dreams, Sonic Adventure 2 and Jet Set Radio all getting revived it could well become a reality.
Weekly Famitsu have revealed that Japan are getting a HD collection of Yakuza 1 & 2 for PS3. The package will launch on November 1st but is Japan exclusive at this time.
According to Eurogamer, SEGA Europe have declined to comment on a Western version at this time.
The official unveiling of the game by SEGA of Japan is expected tomorrow so we should get a trailer as well as plenty of artwork and screenshots (fingers crossed).
