SEGA Looking Into Re-Releasing Shenmue 1&2

Tuesday, October 27th, 2015

shenmue

Sega’s European marketing director Jon Rooke has confirmed that SEGA are, “exploring ways to re-release the original two Shenmue titles.”

This is by no means a confirmation that the re-releases are going to happen, but this public confirmation that the company are at least making an attempt to bring the games out of retirement is certainly a positive one.

Fingers crossed a new generation of gaming fans get to play the original two Shenmue titles before the third game drops on the projected release date of December 2017.

ROM of SEGASonic Popcorn Shop Now Playable in MAME

Monday, October 26th, 2015

SegaSonic_Popcorn_Shop

One of the more obscure sights in the arcades of the early nineties was a Sonic-themed popcorn dispenser called SEGASonic Popcorn Shop. While the machine obviously dispenses popcorn, it also featured a short mini-game to entertain the young’uns before the popcorn left the machine. The machine also features dipswitches to allow the ROM to run in different languages. I have definitely seen a machine in the UK when I was very young so I can confirm it was distributed into other markets.

The ROM of the machine is now available to play in the MAME emulator and you can see footage of the attract screen and the mini-game in the video below. Check out that rather dainty Robotnik!

SEGAThon 3 Raising Money for Charity from Tomorrow at 11pm BST

Thursday, October 22nd, 2015

SEGATHON3

Our very good friends and frequent collaborators RadioSEGA are hosting a 24 hour live stream called SEGAThon 3 from tomorrow night, starting at 11pm BST.

Hosted by Gavvie, the 24 hour livestream aims to raise money for the Marie Curie charity and there’s a whole host of maddening action that will take place on the stream if certain funding goals are met. You can read a full list of them by clicking here but if you want a good idea as to the hell Gavvie is willing to put himself through then just know that the first funding goal means he’ll have to watch all the Twilight films.

We wish Gavvie all the best in what is a very personal endeavor for him and hope as many of you as possible can tune in and donate whatever you can spare.

An unreleased Mega Drive version of System 3’s long-delayed Putty sequel Putty Squad has been dumped and is available to download now. Click here to try the game for yourself.

Putty Squad was originally due for release on Amiga in 1994 but went unpublished until 2013 when it was given a new lick of paint and released on PS4, PS Vita, PS3, 3DS, XBLA and PC. This Mega Drive version would have been made around 1995 and like the Amiga version, even made it to review in certain publications.

Yakuza 5 May Well Be Launching on November 5th if These PSN Avatars Are Anything to Go By

Thursday, October 8th, 2015

yakuza5logo

You can now pre-order Yakuza 5-themed avatars on the PSN store. The pre-order date? 5th of November. Could this be a clue as to the game’s Western release date? Quite possibly.

The avatars are actually marked as Yakuza 5-themed items and you can pre-order them by clicking here. Why you’d want to pre-order tiny images for 25p is beyond me but that’s a thing you can do if you’re losing your grip on reality. Happy times!

Yakuza 5 should launch exclusively on PS3 via the PSN store on November 5th. Should.
