Lost Judgment

SEGA have revealed the sequel to Judgment in the form of Lost Judgment, which will be releasing worldwide on September 24th 2021 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. You can check out the reveal trailer by clicking the embed below:

According to an IGN interview with Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and producer Kazuki Hosokawa, the Judgment sub-series is now flying the flag for the more traditional beat-em-up action the Yakuza franchise is known for, while mainline Yakuza titles will now follow the turn-based RPG action of Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

The previous Judgment game puts you in control of Takayuki Yagami, a private detective investigating a serial-murder case in Kamurocho. The game features similar beat-em-up action to most of the classic Yakuza titles but with the addition of an investigation mode where players must search the scene of the crime for evidence and clues in order to solve the case. This gameplay will be carried forward into Lost Judgment.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon Launches on PS5 Alongside Free PS4-to-PS5 Upgrade

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021

The PS5 version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon lands today! This version of the title offers 4K resolution support as well as a locked 60fps framerate. Loads times should also be dramatically reduced across the board.

PS4 owners can now also upgrade to the PS5 version free of charge. Simply navigate to the game’s page on the PS5 dashboard and select “Upgrade” on the right-hand side of the screen. Unfortunately, saves cannot be transferred from PS4 to PS5, so a new game will have to be started from scratch.

Yakuza Movie In Development at 1212 Entertainment and Wild Sheep Content

Thursday, September 24th, 2020

SEGA have started work on developing a movie based on the beloved Yakuza franchise, alongside 1212 Entertainment and Wild Sheep Content.

The new comes via Variety, who report that the project has already found its producers in Erik Barmack, Roberto Grande and Joshua Long. The team are currently looking for scriptwriters.

After the smash-hit that the Sonic movie wound up being, it’s arguably not too surprising to see SEGA consider adapting their other works to film and TV. That said, we are a bit wary of this project given the number of other projects in this vein that have gone absolutely nowhere in the past; as far as we can tell, that Rent-A-Hero movie isn’t any closer to happening, nor are any of the other SEGA and Stories International ventures.  Time will tell if this one fares any better.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon Western Release Formally Announced

Thursday, September 12th, 2019

On the 29th of August, Yakuza 7 was officially revealed and while an English-translated trailer was shortly available, it was taken down by SEGA Europe very quickly. However, we now have official confirmation that the game is headed West and a new English version of the announcement trailer is available to view.

Called Yakuza: Like a Dragon in the West, this new entry in the series features a re-imagined combat system that features a heavy emphasis on turn-based RPG mechanics. It also features a new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga. Yakuza: Like a Dragon will launch sometime in 2020 exclusively for PS4.

Yakuza Remastered Collection is Headed to PS4, Yakuza 3 Out Today Digitally

Tuesday, August 20th, 2019

A leak on the American Playstation Store has revealed the existence of a Yakuza Remastered Collection. This collection is the localised Western versions of the previously Japan-only PS4 versions of Yakuza 3, 4 and 5. The games are being released digitally first with a new localisation and all the content that was previously cut for the Western versions.

Yakuza 3 will release today with Yakuza 4 releasing on October 29th 2019 and Yakuza 5 will arrive on the 11th of February 2020. Once all 3 digital releases are available, a boxed collection of all 3 titles will be available as well. Pre-orders will supposedly arrive at some point today but at time of writing I can’t find any listings.

The boxed version comes with some really cool exclusives if you pre-order the day one edition. Yakuza 3 and 4 come on one disc with Yakuza 5 on a seperate disc. This is because it is also bundled with a PS3 style case for Yakuza 5 which infamously only got a digital release in PAL regions. Also included is a 2 disc digipack case which houses the entire collection.

New PS4 Yakuza Title Announced, Features Yakuza Online’s Ichiban Kasuga

Wednesday, March 20th, 2019

It has been revealed that Ichiban Kasuga of Ryu Ga Gotoku Online fame is going to be the star of the next PS4 Yakuza title. This new Yakuza game is currently untitled and there’s no word on a release date at this time.

In addition, a new casting call has been put out for actresses to play Kasuga’s love interest. The chosen actress will appear in the game and promotional material, but also receive a 1 million yen prize. Applications can be completed on this website.

If you’re unfamiliar with Ichiban Kasuga, that’ll be because the game he features in is currently Japan-only. Ryu Ga Gotoku Online is a free-to-play Yakuza spin-off that stars both Kiryu Kazama and Ichiban Kasuga. It is currently available in Japan for PC, iOS and Android devices. There is no word on a Western release at this time.
